How to shoot slinger ammo while weapon is unsheathed?

Hello fellow hunter!
I've seen people do this in some streams but I can't figure out how to do it. A quick flash pod to Rath face while angry is priceless!

if on controller: left click stick when in focused mode

mouse and keyboard: MMB when aiming in focused mode

on PC aim with right mouse button and use the middle mouse button to shoot

Note: You cannot do this with heavy slinger ammo that you get as drops during a monster fight. Weapon must be sheathed to fire those.
