What does guard up even do?
Does anyone know? It genuinely feels like you can just guard anything in the game at base without any guard skills

there are few unblockables in the game atm.

Arkveld grab, or gravios fart clouds are some. Its not much use for now.
It reduces push back/chip damage from blocking. It doesn't do as much for chargeblage/sns block as it does for lance/gunlance block but it can be quite noticable when you block Jin Dahaads nuke with nothing but a GL shield and Rocksteady Mantle with only 1/4 of your hp missing.

Guard Up in world let you block otherwise unblockable attacks, excluding pins. It was basically never used, because the chip damage you'd take would nessessitate a heal 9 times out of ten. In Wilds, they made it a 3 tier skill, with each tier reducing the damage you take while blocking said attacks.
As far as unblockables in the game though, I have no idea lol
I have to assume the Ice Dragon's finisher also counts, and Nu Udra's flamethrower.

The first you have no excuse for not being able to get behind cover, but the latter you might use it against assuming it works.

But yeah basically worthless atm.

F if I know, and I have played lance for about 80 hours now
Gravios blasts from belly comes to mind, it goes through power guard
I think you can block Arkveld's grab, but it's tricky, It definitely misses if you counter

There is never enough space pn my builds for guard up
I should test it on Gore Magala, his blasts eat right through your guard

Jin's supernova is actually blockable without Guard up, just does a tonna damage
They massively reduced the number of attacks that require Guard Up to block which is a good thing. In base World everyone farmed Chungus for this decoration which was the only efficient way to get this skill and when Iceborne released people who didn't have it used two piece Master Rank Uragaan armor. Melding the Guard Up decoration was only added much later.

You two have to fight now.

It depends on the weapon ofc. It was a must have for Lance players. Things have changed since then. Offensive Guard is now even used by SnS. In World it was impossible to deal with beam attacks without Guard Up and attacks targeting the ground required the skill, too.
