get the trap tool from the shop, the that stands on top of the boxes. make nets by combining webs and ivy then combine with trap tool to make pit trap, or us thunder bug extract with trap tool to make electric trap.

You can also net the great thunder bugs for a free trap too

Open the Crafting List.

You buy "Trap Tools" from the merchant in the main camp, then go into the crafting menu and combine a Trap Tool with either "Net" (spiderweb + ivy) for Pitfall Traps or Thunderbug Capacitor for Shock Traps.
You have to farm the net and bug stuff in the open world unless you're in High Rank, then you can get them via "Material Retrieval" sometimes.

Also be mindful of armor with skills increasing the amount of items you get from gathering

2. Catch Thunderbug and combine with the tool to get Shock Trap.
or
2. Gather Ivy and Spiderweb then combine to get Net, then combine Net and Trap tool to get Pitfall Trap.
