I find it very hard to believe it that your stick has not any drift. Consoles usually have a correction automation on by default. So such drifts only are visible with special software.
In doubt, check if your controller manufacturer has such special software which needs to be reinstalled.
Other than that it sounds like your controller is definitely broken, and you just did not notice until now.
