I disagree, get to love that guard button, his attacks are slow and predictable. his most deadly attack takes years to come out and gives plenty of warning.
Unless I'm much mistaken, Wilds Greatsword is just a direct derivative of World Greatsword, which is easily the worst the weapon has ever been. I've not done a lot of testing with it in Wilds so far though. The Rise GS experience was insanely fun though... Reminded me a lot of how Aerial GS was in GU. Rocketing through the air to deliver a massive flyby smack to the back.
They've all been dumbed down to hell. Bow was dumbed down in World and now the Bowguns have received the same treatment to make them mindless button-mashing weapons too.
Still, it isn't like they aren't effective. It is still easy to outperform bladeys.
And as for the Bow... my main... the trick-shots and stuff leave a bad taste in the mouth after a while. I love the Pierce Coatings though.
Damn.........I messed around and wrote a novel by accident. Lol. My bad guys; I'm passionate about the GS, and I got carried away. Lemme try again.
First, I'd recommend GS in Wilds without question. ♥♥♥♥ got soooo much smoother, and GS is eating good!
READY TO EAT TIPS:
1) Spend half the time with your weapon sheathed (this is how you handle its slowness)
2) ABUSE DRAW ATTACKS JUST. BECAUSE. YOU CAN!!!!!!
3) Tackle is one of your best friends after a roll or during a charge. It lets you play the GS like a Lance if that helps.
4) True Charge Slash is the move you gotta utilize for big damage
5) Don't get too greedy for TCS; Strong and Overhead are enough at times
6) Tackle can STUN
7) Guard is a good panic button and defensive option
8) Perfect Guard and get ♥♥♥♥ for free
9) Rising Offset Slash for dem hard readz
COMPLEX SCHITT:
10) Don't worry about the positioning; choose to be near, far, at the head, at the tail, or in a safe zone around the monster. As you grow, your positioning will too.
11) Don't worry about the match-ups; start with small knowledge nuggets, then add to that and make a chicken basket. Practice looking for PG and Offset opportunities.
12) Don't over-complicate the GS. It's simpler than it looks. Trust.
13) Don't over-complicate the GS. You don't have to snipe unless you want to.
14) Don't over-complicate the GS.............YET. Complex structures are built using simple building blocks. You'll get there; I promise. Team Darkside was one of us first. Lol.
ABOVE ALL:
15) Let yourself be free to decide whichever path you want to take, like everyone is saying here. Do what you enjoy, as opposed to what the meta says. Otherwise, you'll be miserable. The joy of your MH Wilds experience matters above EVERYTHING!
FOOD FOR THOT:
15) This is gonna sound weedheaded. The fact that you have a desire to play the GS despite your hatred of it may mean that THE GREAT SWORD IS CALLING TO YOU!
And I'm not joking or gaslighting. This is how I became a GS user. When I found how slow it was, I put it down thinking it wasn't for me. But then the Esteemed Instructor in MHFU taught me about draw slashes.........and I've been a GS user ever since. Lol.
Sometimes you don't choose your weapon.
Sometimes IT............chooses YOU.
Ehh, not to be argumentative, but I wouldn't say "mindless." Button mashing? YES! But it couldn't be mindless; otherwise your cheeks are getting clapped. Doing a Power Shot at the wrong time DID leave me open. Lol. So you gotta use safer combos before you commit to blastin'.
To me, I like what 5th Gen did with the Bow. Beforehand (from MHFU) you had to charge and run around and shoot. Things felt so slow and clunky to me, and tough to aim. World changed that for me, and turned the Bow into an experience I legit enjoyed. The feeling of just wildin' out on the monster was awesome for me. But I won't knock you if you don't feel the same. I didn't go through MHGU or some of the other older games, so I don't know what I missed out on.
I'm glad the pierce coatings were great for ya tho.
I do have to admit that World GS was a bop in my eyes. We got Tackle and True Charge Slash! Those were always satisfying to pull off.
I agree with you on Rise GS being something special, though I did take a different route. I pulled Strongarm Stance out, because of RageGamingVideos. That schitt CHANGED THE GREAT SWORD META. As in, you could swap Focus with Wirebug Whisperer. THAT was awesome! (A bit of a break from form, but awesome nonetheless; you can drop a beefed up TCS after a friggin' roar with that.)
Oh, Arkveld? You talkin' about 2Chainz? Lmao.
I haven't fought him in high rank yet, but that's my next quest, I think.
You might GS now but as with everything practise can change that.
Gotcha. I might go for it when I fight him again.
Well, whatcha waiting on?!?!?? Hop in and get your new secondary weapon under your thumbs, playa playa!
If big giant weapon appeals maybe try hammer, its also a big giant weapon but its much more mobile than greatsword.
Can also charge up for some meaty swings (nowhere near true charged slash but still big), and you can react rather than predict the monsters more.
Also it had zero combos so no brain cells needed just bonk away.
