NPC Hunter Companions
Are they actually good? I played a bit Sunbreak, and I honestly wasn't too impressed with the NPC team mates in it, but how are they in Wilds? I've been thinking to limit SOS calls just to them, but I'm not sure if they're any good

I still don't think they are great, but they feel better than Rise/Break's NPC hunters. I don't really use them much since I'm a primarily solo hunter.
They make the game easy mode since they always heal you and can't die.
They can kill every boss cuz they never die.

They can pretty much carry you during a hunt. Actual players, of course, are far better, but the NPC hunters are solid stuff.

And for those saying they can't die: They CAN get KO'd, but they'll just come back. It does not count as a penalty against you.

but do they hold aggro? Like in Sunbreak the monsters absolutely ignored them for me and chased me around more than anything so they companions were a dead weight that just would yell stuff mid-battle. I wonder if Wilds NPCs are treated more like players by monsters' AI. I like social experience of hunting, but I wanna avoid speed runner hunters that kill stuff in a minute or less, so I thought if I set up SOS calls to just NPCs if they gonna make experience more social but without speed running the hunts to Hell

Yes, they can hold aggro. Especially if you use a ranged weapon.
I see the issues with Rolepalying. The Rise ones had ana ctual personaliyt and talked with each other and teased you. This ones here are just bots.
Utsushi or Hinoa and Minoto with Hunting Horn absoluetly destroy.

The thing is if youa renÄ't too impressed you shoeuld be a far better hunter and not need Palcios or NPCs, so why use them at all?

I use my Palico bc he is modeled after my IRL doggo who is my best buddy and guardian protector who is on this grand adventure with me and my raptor birb I named after my other doggo, and in-game Palico behaves a lot like my dog would - looking out for me. Palico in Wilds feels like a true friend (plus HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE CUTE OUTFITS IT CAN WEAR??).

I did most of the hunts solo, but I like MH for group hunts. Alas, right now it's either AFK hunters or speedrunners. I was thinking NPCs might give me the social aspect of hunting without running into players that might ruin the experience.

There good enough to litterally carry you through any hunt there is in the game.
