Hammer is not supposed to do damage, it keeps the monster stunned. I really shoudln't have to explain horn.
S&S is about applying status and versatility.
Dual is about consistent damage over a long period, long sword is for cutting tails and parts.
You can't really just say "This does more damage therefore it is S rank." that's... not how this game works. 4 Gunlances might melt the monster quick when they get the opportunity to attack but they're going to struggle with breaking backs, getting knock downs and cutting tails.
actual weapon tierlist
S. Sword and Shield, the weapon of adults.
F. Every other weapon, for toddlers.
its based on speedrun times, against dps, has nothing to do with anything else.
Bow has the fastest time and highest potential dps right now, charge blade and gunlance are pretty close and IG right against them.
So unless you have some arbitrary requirements outside of fastest 100-0 * maximum dps or whatever you would be wrong and no one cares.
well, if the monster is stunned for longer because it's paralyzed you get easy free damage. that's all there is to it
That's like playing a racing game and just looking at top speed and not taking into account handling or acceleration. Who plays like that?
Strange tier chart.
Besides the correct answer is Gunlance and if you equip anything else you're playing wrong. :D
When this gets fixed, just like they did in World to Iceborne, then DBs will definitely get a boost up.
Also, I don't know if this is valid, however I watched this video as well pertaining to the Meta Tier List, and poster used actual speedrun videos to showcase the rankings. Again, despite only being a "day old", it may already be outdated

Seems more accurate than the dumb lists I've been reading that put SA near the bottom. Though it's weird seeing HBG and LBG at B since they're usually among the top.
Although I understand the assessment, this tier list is based upon killing the monster the quickest for the most optimal gameplay of finishing a monster. That's why World had Speed Trials implemented into them, with people finding the most effective and efficient ways to kill a monster, and they were actually a thing with even tournaments for them.
So these types of tier list are in fact valid, and again, I understand where you're coming from, however with that sort of notion, then a tier list isn't relevant, which in most cases for a game like Monster Hunter, it shouldn't really matter.
However, for those that want the most effective and fastest ways to kill these monsters (for farming or what not) then these tier list do matter.
That's why we had Meta builds in World/Iceborne, and it's going to be the same here.
Maybe we don't have the same data, what is your source?
Also no, wrong comparison, this is like pretending to look at a race, but what you're actually looking at is a straight line with no turns, no opponents and no obstacles. This isn't racing this is testing motor speed.
Then what is the actual source of the claim? I'd gladly take the data.
