Focus Mode and Melee Weapon Aiming
Easy topic example is Long Sword's spirit blade I-III to spirit roundslash combo.

Previously in World, if your character faces forward aligned with camera and directional type 1, holding the directional down (S for ASWD MKB) during the combo will turn around your character twice for about 70-90 degree each; once before executing spirit blade III and another before roundslash, resulted a roundslash which covered a lot of arc backwards and your character facing toward the camera.

Currently in Wilds, the same scene only will rotate you before roundslash for same 70-90 degree either to one side. So not all your backward covered by the roundslash. With focus mode however, you can rotate right away after spirit blade I.
---
Using focus mode sure made this looks easier or better. But as MKB user, this also means you have to frequently hold or toggle (in and out) an extra button during the combo. Also it is easy by accident to do focus strike when you are trying to sheathe weapon with default "Shift" if you are late at releasing or toggling out the focus mode, unless you assigned the focus strike button to another.

why not just stay in the focus mode? why turn it off?
Hold is better imo

If you are staying in focus mode, it will automatically turn into aim slinger mode after you sheathed weapon = You can not roll item bar when aim slinger since your item bar would be restricted to slinger ammo only.

Unless there is a setting or mod which allows you to roll item bar unrestricted when aiming slinger just like World WITHOUT obstructing other button uses (ie: ranged weapon's ammo/coating roll) or disable the automatic aim slinger mode on toggle.

Shift is the Sprint button. It will sheath your weapon then sprint. It is also the key for Focus Strike. I suggest you use the keybind for the actual 'Sheath' button to put away your weapon. Be mindful 'sheath' and 'Use item' are also the same button. If you button mash, you'll end up using items instead. Blame it all on controllers.

Whether hold or toggle is preference per player. But my topic is rather why have to be using focus mode itself. Like you have to hold/toggle an additional button and turn around your camera by holding another analog/move your mouse to turn around your character after an action or during a combo while previously you don't have to.

Or as I mentioned "assigned the focus strike button to another."

In my case tho, I re-assigned the focus strike button to Q and remove/changed "Select Scoutfly Notification: Down" default (it already has default secondary Pg Down). Least my finger still can reach the Q button with ease.

Add: No, I don't blame it on controllers tho. More or less to the developer why break something which been good.

For example, long sword's poke thrust now combo to rising slash and loops back to thrust automatically by spamming Attack 2 button (RMB, default) is a good improvement. In World, you have to alternate between RMB-LMB-repeat to do this.

Then comes this topic and the clunky UI navigation...

i got used to it, i assigned to mouse4 , since thumb is always free. so either shift, lmb or rmb on top of that. its actually two button operation,

only exceptions are focus mode fade slash or spirit thrust. but i prefer to tap focus for that, for rapid adjustments.
I put focus mode toggle on side mouse button as well. Sometimes I forget to disable but feels a lot better being able to aim all attacks. I just wish that it would let you call the seikret when in focus mode too regardless of if weapon is sheathed or not in focus mode unless there's a setting for that.
as LS user on MnK i just dont like fov zoom on focus mode i keep using it as hold button. when im near to a huge ass monster i have to know when an attack is coming and with focus mode fov zoom its sometimes hard to tell when strike would come.

i see.

can't really say that i encountered this problem since i simply use numerical hotkeys.

i can call seikret from focus mode on mkb. there might be a double bind in your settings.

Fun fact however: If you empty out the pouch from all slinger ammo including hiding the paint ball, throwing knifes and capture net (you still can equip them from shortcuts) then you actually get the old World's item bar behaviour; you can scroll the item bar AND directly use item by pressing the normal "use item" button while in aim slinger mode.

If the World's item bar behavior is added as extra setting, what we need is just allowing to sheathe weapon using dash button while in Focus mode and it will solve quite part of the problem. Currently you can only sheathe weapon while in toggled focus mode using the same "use item" button.

Exactly, I tried (not too hard) to make a macro that on dash would disable focus and replay the dash key but it did not work :(
