The main thing with MH1, is that its low rank is harder than its high rank, which is not a joke. You start with nothing and have to grind your way up to having a decent stock of potions, which you have to use sparingly unless you want to gather in a small monster quest every other quest. You have a very limited inventory while hunting as well, so you want to bring as few items as you possibly can.
It is a poorly designed fight, though. The large wings often obscure what it's doing unless you're looking at it head-on, and its model often gets culled by the camera; you got too close to charge your greatsword and it took one step forward? Congrats, now you can't see it despite being under it.
Its damage is hilariously boosted over everything else; its actual attacks are no big deal when you can see them coming, but a single hit is a third of your HP with maxed armor spheres and the above camera issue means you'll take a cheap hit eventually unless you play purely ranged.
It's also really buggy! Twice now I've had occasions where it did an attack, ended up on a slope, and froze for almost 2 minutes without taking damage; once it was freed, it could no longer gain wounds, further extending the fight.
1. the game has been out for little over a week... but internet moves fast as so does this game
2. The damage is ONLY BOOSTED when you get infected by the full blown frenzy virus. You take SOO much more damage when you get that Red mist symbol. You have to pay attention how much Frenzy you are building up and use Nul Berries to clear out your gauge *need at least two to bring you down to 1/3rd a guage*. Only when you're in Blue Mist (immune) state are you Safe and take reduced damage AND do more damage.
3. the whole game is buggy, i once had a Jan Dahaan walk into the air of to who knows where only to THEN continue to the next fight. in another fight WAY before that, with ebony Fakagoron, the monster stopped and just let us WAIL on it till it finally died. it still reacted to a tail being cut off and to wounds being broken but it was just a punching bag till it died.
