where can i find rathalos?

What's your HR at? If it's too low, Rathalos might just not be spawning yet. Just progressing the main story might also open up quests to hunt it. My own HR is still not very high at all, as it wasn't too long since I got into HR. It's still in the 20's or so... and I haven't seen any Rathalos either, be it guardian or normal.

Once you're in High Rank and your HR cap has been raised (after capturing the Yian Kut-Ku), just loiter around the Scarlet Forest for a while. Eventually a monster will show up with just "????" as its name and an unidentified icon. It will either be a Rathian or Rathalos and you won't know until you go look at it for yourself. Free-Hunt it and you'll get an Optional Quest for it.

i found rathian thats all but its hard to get other unidentified monsters to spawn in

In that case, I think you just need to progress the story a bit more and Rathalos should start spawning soon enough.

I'm sorry to say it is RNG.
Rathalos can appear from the first moment you officially switch to High Rank. It was literally THE first monster I fought when I stepped out into the forest after my rank cap went up.

monsters' optional quests unlock after you kill them for the first time but if im not mistaken, story dont have normal rathalos, only guardian rathalos. so you need to find one in openworld events and hunt it. you can also save it as investigation quest and repeat it as many time as you d like.
