Game just won't launch
So, I bought this the other day... And now suddenly, it won't work.... And its vastly over calculated my play time, since it crashed, and I opened up another app to code for a while, but seems that it didn't kill the process with Steam, so, it thinks I have played 17 hours (I have played about 3).... So, I can't even get a refund..... It worked for a few hours, now, it won't even launch without an instant CTD, with no crash report, so, hard to even narrow down the problem. I have done all the usual debugging stuff, validating the files, checking disk integrity, etc, and nada. Anyone here got any ideas?

Are you using mods or REframework? Have you edited files or replaced dlls? Without knowing your specs or what OS, I am going to assume we are working with Windows. I would say delete the shader.cache file in your game directory, delete dinput8.dll and reframework folders if they exist, delete any files you manually replaced, and verify your game files via steam to revert them to their original versions.

With no error messages it is difficult to say exactly what is happening. You could check the windows event viewer and see if windows is logging errors that might point you in the right direction.

Or, you could nuke Wilds and reinstall and see if the fixes it. Just make sure the Wilds folder is gone before you reinstall and any save data is either in the cloud or manually backed up.

Edit: AMD has an optional update for RX5000+ gpus that solves some crashing and mesh/texture issues. Might be relevant, might not.

No mods, deleted the cache. Get no crash report, since is a hard CTD, that doesn't trigger the CrashReport.exe. Have reinstalled the game twice. I have also reinstalled things like DirectX, the redistributables, graphics drivers, checked if there is any OC happening, checked network settings, did disk scans. Event viewer doesn't seem to show anything pertaining to MH in any way, no graphics crashes, etc. Literally, the window opens for a few seconds, then I get a momentary hang, then a CTD. No graphics appear or anything in this time. Even reset my bios etc to see if there were any settings there that was causing a problem, did a windows repair to see if that helped, literally, every debugging step I can think of (And that's a fair few, I am a games developer myself, so, know my way around debugging 3D applications in general.)

For last bit of context, I am running win 11, 32 gb of ram, Ryzen 5 5600G processor, GTx 1660 (which yes, is minimum specs, but, as I said before, was working fine a few days ago.)

Could be a possible savegame corruption.

Disable Steam Cloud and disable the existing savegame and try again.
That 5600G has an iGPU. Is it disabled via bios? It would be bonkers, but check to make sure windows isn't trying to run the game on it.
Update! Seems underclocking my CPU has fixed it????!!!!!! I have no idea why, lost some FPS, but, it runs now.... I am going to investigate further, and see if I can track down *why* this works....
These issues probably aren't related. Another person is having issues and I noticed a coincidence. That are also running a 5600. I think its a non-G, but a 5600. "Correlation is not causation" and all that jazz, but give it a look. There MIGHT be emerging AMD cpu /gpu weirdness with Wilds

My Friends PC that has a brand new 7600 also couldn't run it.

How to erase existing save game? i saw how to disable steamsave for monster hunter. I saw in upcoming patch notes that they will try to fix an issue regarding corrupted saved games that crashed, crashing the game on subsequent loading.

This worked wow. Guess the next update might fix it for a lot of people since they said they are releasing a possible fix for corrupted save data crashing games.

However my xbox controller does not seem to work now. know of a possible fix?

Would not be the first time, regarding the savegames. It is an issue I know just too well. That is why I recommend daily backups. I also recommend strongly to make a backup before updating the game as described in tip # 16 here

ok got the xbox controller to work as well by enabling steam input under MH wilds properties. So my old save junk now or you think keep it for when update comes in two days?

Keep it.

While I do not believe an update can fix a corrupted save - only making such less likely - it is worth a try, is it not?

In the meanwhile you can still enjoy the game. If the update can help you restore your savegame, you win - if it does not you win by not waiting for it.

Regarding Xbox controller I am surprised. I was always under the impression it works better because of Steam input disabled. Not the other way around.

Are you getting a black screen when you start the game?

If you are I was having that same issue. It's caused by frame generation being turned on when you aren't using a 4000 series of above gpu.

For some reason the game was having a conflict with my external 1080 ti gpu even though the game was running off my 4000 series gpu. I unplugged my external gpu and I did a fresh install of my graphics drivers, making sure to click the clean install button so it deleted all the old drivers.
