I'm gonna lose my mind trying to get a Sandstar to spawn
I've been roaming their spawn areas in Windblown Plains night after night for hours during Plenty. They just don't want to spawn.

I just need to catch one for a quest...

We would recommend searching for it during the Fallow as the desert is darker in this weather condition, making the Sandstar's glow stand out more clearly.

I'll try, but I've already wasted 3 hours of just running in circles while listening to music, I'm about to give up on this quest.

set it to fallow(to make it dark) and then of course set it to night, roam the sand looking for it, if you don't see it, you can go climb ark-velds mining path to reset the zone, do that until it shows up

Put render distance to max. I got the lil bugger twice, first time was with no pod and before i knew there was a quest, i chased him around for a few mins until i got a lucky net off.

This is the answer!
I got mine at nighttime plenty setting. Make sure you have scream pods. I got mine at the desert around the 13th popup tent
Dont do what i did, go in fully unprepared and chasing the little sh!t around the map for 5 mins. Eventually cut it off and captured it XD

Go to Oasis Camp at Night and change your Weather setting to Plenty, it pops up quite closely to the camp (go left towards the area where it connects the sand area to the starter area with all the herbivores) bring a sonic bomb to stun it cause its insanely fast
I had good luck using the Area 16 Camp: it was hiding at the base of the wylky structure that is at the top of the dune to your left, if you're walking towards the Succulent from camp 16 and went downhill at the start.
Only had to rest a few times.
Set your time to the following....
Season: Plenty
Time: Night

1. Travel through the desert canyon towards 16
2. Hit one of the Wyverns flying above you for a Screamer Pod
3. Go to the top of the Dunes and look for a blue glow.
4. Get within about 10-15 feet of it and fire the pod at it
5. Run in and net the little bugger....
6. Profit!

Note: It also helps if you loadout your net close to your slinger cos sometimes if you're an idiot like me you spend way too long cycling
