This is a myth. It gives the same rewards as carving. MOST of the time. Wilds removed the capture versus carving drop rates. However, it did not remove food buffs that give you extra carves. And you do not get those extra carves if the monster is captured. So, anyone who has a carving buff, actually gets less rewards from a capture. Wilds completely changed the way drops work, and now it is almost always better to carve when it comes to reweards. The exception is if you are playing solo or with friends whom you all know didn't bother to get food buffs. But everyone is really bad at this game, so no one will ever know this or bother to learn this.

Hunting etiquette doesn't exist anymore and has been killed since at least World, unfortunately. It should always be up to the original poster if they want to capture or kill it. If they give no indication of trying to capture it, then simply don't.
