might be the Nvidia app, if you have an Nvidia card. it can be set to "optimize" your graphics, which will reset them to the Nvidia settings whenever you close/reopen the game. you can disable it p easily in the app

The Nvidia app does not do that automatically by default.
Keeps happening to me as well. Doesn't happen with any other game... period. I don't have the Nvidia app installed on my computer, I use NVCleanstall to install JUST the drivers and no other bloatware. I think it has something to do with the configuration files being kept in the game directory.

im pretty sure its the nvidia app there is a setting that needs to be disabled to stop the app auto optimising ur games i used to have it but i changed the setting and it works just go to the app settings and have a look

I had this happen to me once and i removed the game entirely from my Nvidia app.. seems to have done the trick

be sure to lunch steam as an administrator

that's you and if this happens but the config file in read only

Make sure your steam library isn't set to Read Only in windows.

Open File Explorer, navigate to where you installed Steam, in my case as an example;

This PC > Local Disk C: > Program Files X86 > Steam Library

Right click Steam Library > properties > Untick Read Only

You might find though that it's a Windows Permissions issue, because Windows 10 and Windows 11 decided long ago that we shouldn't own our own computers... Fk Microsoft.

So you may need to go Properties > Security > select USERS > EDIT > tick FULL CONTROL and apply.

(and then find that the next time Windows Updates it changes all this back because screw us)
Same here on one of my computer it changed to low for no reason.
set your config.ini in game folder as read only

game doesn't do that, like others have mentioned, when things like this happen, it's usually because game can't write to your directory, probably because your game is in your program files directory, and windows is skittish about giving permissions to mod stuff in there ??
