Monster "Faints"(?) mid fight for a chance to carve before it dies?
Anyone else have this happen to them? Your fighting the monster, then it looks like it died or fell asleep, you can carve once, no damage numbers on attacks, then a few seconds later it gets up slowly and the fight continues.. What causes this? It wasn't in world

I thought it was specific to Gypceros. It's the only one i've seen do it so far.

Its the only one who does this and Yes, its natural for this Monster to do so... nobody wants to get beaten up. xD

gypceros does a fake-out death, if you stay close too long he tends to get up and hit you while your carving, but you can get free stuff if your quick

That makes a lot of sense, I've seen it happen twice on him and didn't know it was exclusive. Thought starving/hunger may have had a part in it lmao. TY!

I had one ‘die’ then come back to life and it one-shotted my wife who was standing right next to it to carve it. I was mid-attack animation and I wasn’t dealing any damage to the corpse at all.

Was the oddest bug, I think I caught it on stream but I’m not entirely certain. This has happened twice so far where it looks dead, but comes back to life.

We’ve also had it where it dies, doesn’t pan the camera like you killed it, then eventually allows you to carve it.

lol I would be inclined to agree, but my attacks did no damage to the ‘corpse’ on the ground. At least not until it resurrected itself and one-shot her.

they do damage even when its down, you just dont get the full visual tells, and it might not respond right away

So you're saying it's normal for the monster to not move at all, like it's dead, no damage numbers to pop up when they did previously regardless if it was on the ground or not, and there's no way to tell if you 'killed' it or not? Sounds like a bug to me lol.

yes, cause its faking being dead, and you getting number indicators would reveal it.

this wasn't an issue in past games cause, well, they didn't have those indicators, but im sure you can see why they would temporarily hide them so its little trick could get people.

which, by your own admission, got your partner twice lol.

Naw its playing dead as a survival mechanic. Hoping that you'll go away and leave it alone. Many animals do this in real life too. Where they will pretend to be dead.

Got her once, we saw the 'possum' pose twice. Never saw it in the other games though, so it was just strange. I can't think of any monsters that have done this in these games. Guess I'm wrong.

i admit i dont know every monster but im pretty sure its specific to this one, if too many did it i suppose it'd be too obvious every time, but for the first time? gets a few people lol

Various animals in real-life also play dead and even let other animals carry them off in their mouths before "waking up".

It's a survival mechanic they obviously copied for a bit of fun and uniqueness.
