16GB RAM vs. 32GB RAM Performance
for anyone using 16GB of RAM and those using 32GB of RAM, how's your performance? Are you using DDR4 or DDR5? If you have the software available to you to know, how much memory does MHWilds use normally when playing? I've seen where it's been reported that MHWilds wants a minimum of 24GB of memory, so I'm curious on what others have seen/think.

me personally, I'm using 16GB of DDR4 3200Mhz in Dual-Channel config, and my RAM seems to max out a majority of the time. it has me considering an upgrade to 32GB of DDR4 3200Mhz, hence why I'd like some feedback on any notable increases in stability or performance beforehand. thanks!

good ddr4 32gb
I'm running 32 Gb DDR5 in dual channel (6000mhz)
Did a quick run in the game and ram peaked at 20.9Gb in use, closed the game and it dropped to 7,8-ish
General rule of thumb is 2GB per core rounded up.
4GB or more if common software uses a lot of compression methods or VM's/Game server hosting.

yup, this is what I figured. if it went to around 21GB usage with 32GB, then it getting near 95% usage with 16GB tells me it likely needs more than 16GB. thank you for your reply (:

Will there be a noticeable performance increase with 32GB ?
I've 16GB RAM and is uses 7 - 7,5 GB of it. With all other programs i'm reaching like 89-96 % of RAM, so it's pretty much on edge, but so far i've not had lag in 37,5 hours.

haven't heard of that rule of thumb before, that's an interesting way to look at it, though I dunno if it would hold up in modern day gaming since for a 6 core CPU you'd be looking at 12GB, which you couldn't get unless you got a single 4GB stick and an 8GB stick separately, and given that you may as well spend the extra 8-10 bucks or so to get 16GB total. from what I have understood over the years, up until recently a majority of games didn't utilize more than 16GB, so going over 16GB for just gaming reasons didn't make much of a difference. that was usually reserved for content creation or rendering. nowadays, some games seem to be making use of up to 20GB of RAM, so the upgrade is much more considerable nowadays. my main question with MHWilds is whether or not the upgrade will deliver a noticeable stability or performance improvement, which I've seen some say it does and doesn't, so I assume the differences may be related to differences in hardware and utilization.
32gb of RAM and seems like 70-75% is reported used while playin

try set Virtual Memory (Pagefile) either at the amount of your physical ram or let the OS auto set it.

Helped me to solve that problem. im using 32GB and still have lack of memory warning before that.

if you have problem with the graphic try use debug mode at nvidia control panel under Help

yeah, the ability to run other programs alongside Wilds is another good consideration, especially if Wilds does generally want more than 16GB on its own. so far from what I've heard/seen from both here and other posts, Wilds tends to want more than 16GBs, so the question just becomes if it delivers noticeably better stability or performance with more memory.

i've actually tried this, i do think it helped with stability but generally my memory still reaches very high utilization. virtual memory from my understanding is used mostly for background processes, like with the operating system, that don't need to be pulled from very often. it would be good for freeing up more RAM for the game itself, but i'm unsure if the game could pull from virtual memory for most of it's needs

The thing is, that it only uses 8 GB max on my PC, so i'm rather surprised how others get it to like 20 GB^^

Yeah, if you want to avoid issues, you should always use a pagefile honestly. If you set it to auto, you won't run into any limits.

The issue is that Windows just likes to allocate more memory than there is in your system. Even if you only use 28gb, it might try to allocate 34 in total and you'll run into crashes. The confusing part is that if you only look at ram usage, software will usually show you 28gb before the crash.

If you have 64gb you should propably be fine though. Can't imagine windows would allocate that crazy amounts for anything.

Like right now my task manager shows 8.2gb in use, 13.3 committed.

There is no performance difference I already tried it it runs exactly the same, I upgraded from 16 to 32gb & nothing changed.
Save your money for a better GPU or CPU a upgrade that actually helps in a meaningful way that you'l notice.

Looking at the transfer rate of DDR4 3200, if you have a NVMe that is above 5000MB/s, then you might not see much difference. The game utilizes DirectStorage so can pass data from your storage, to RAM, and then to VRAM.
