Upgrade weapons and armor early or later

Doesn't seem like I really need to upgrade weapons and armor starting out per the tutorial but should I wait till later?

Upgrade weapons early, armour not so much. Weapons upgrade in a tree and sometimes require previous weapons, armour is per item and doesn't require prior sets

I was thinking on waiting to upgrade the base weapon till I got a weapon to craft.
Is that best?
Or should I upgrade the base weapons that I start off with?

It doesn't really matter. Once you progress your earlier gear will be essentially useless. Just upgrade as you go to the most recent tier. I used the bone tree for HBG through the entire story. Just upgrading the bone tree when I could. Anything you grind early will be obsolete very quickly.

just upgrade to iron 3 then dont upgrade or farm anything until you unlock high rank

it doesn't really matter early because the sphere you gain is so low in value, it's almost negligeable if you use 50 to have a comfortable starting set.

Alright thanks, quick question on that if I upgrade those base starter weapons does it lose the base version or make a new upgraded version of that weapon?
I kind of like to keep the base weapons much like I did in Worlds.

Weapons yeah, Pick a set or 2 and roll with it until you find some thing else you want.

pretty much did that with both rathalos sets until i found some thing that i wanted. even then you dont have go that far unless you need it.

well i basically played the whole game with the guardian rathalos set (low rank cause i didnt see the high rank tab) and the rathian or rathalos sword and always upgraded my weapon when i could hunt the monster for it. once i beat the game (talking post credits content) i noticed there where actual more armors.

the whole game is rather easy untill you reach hardened apex or hardened arkveld which are the only enemys which deal big amounts of damage.

there is no reason to wait, since low rank gear is very easy to craft (you usually only need 1-3 monster kills) and weapons mostly need previous stages to craft. also highrank gear needs different stuff than low rank, so there is no reason to save low rank craft material.

before high rank: use armor spheres to upgrade armor.
after unlocking high rank: build whatever armor you want/need.

Weapons: just get whatever highest sharpness + acceptable raw+elemental damage weapon you can get. You will never get a proper upgrade or sidegrade.

Never, ever listen to people telling you to skip content because they can't tolerate not rushing a game.
If there are armors for low rank, it's because it's meant to be used (and upgraded) during low rank. A set for a monster and for a weapon, it will let you get an handle on mechanics, cancelling status effects and actually play the game how it's meant to be played. Low rank is interesting, even if some impatient people will try to argue on the contrary.

Whenever you feel you need it. You will know if a hunt takes longer than 20 minutes.

i just wore chainmail the entirety of low rank and upgraded it with armor spheres lmao. there's almost nothing worth making until high rank unless you need some really specific skill like constitution for bow. first MH i've ever put it off so long with, between the ease of gameplay and the utterly mediocre offerings

the actually good low rank armor can't be made until you finish low rank anyway, so you may as well just wait until high rank and only forge weapons you'll want to upgrade to HR versions

I can either upgrade my Basic great sword or make a new one of a different tree, is it better to just upgrade the 1st one or make a new one from another tree?
They also look better on the other tree.
