Just bad RNG. You need to the cut the tail off and carve the tail. It's a rare drop so you might just be unlucky. I've also had is as a reward once. But don't capture as it can't be 'carved'

Study monster book to find out conditions for certain part drops. That is what Monster Hunter games is.
Check drop tables?
Could be rare drop, these have 10-5% drop chance, like rathalos/rathian rubies.

bro ive killed more of them than any other monsters combined... its terrible
Check the monster guide and make sure you're not killing the wrong rank ones, some drops are low rank only and some are high rank

i know i have to kill it and break the tail if i can, but man ive killed like 30 of them already. the field guide really doesnt tell you if you should kill them on hi or lo rank, as far as i know

Yes it does, it always did. "I've played more monster hunter games than you" my ass. You just need to go to the monster guide, go to the page that shows monster drops, and switch it between low rank drops and high rank drops.

welcome to monster hunter. git gud
I was having a tough time finding a Marrow as well, this was mainly due to me not being able to break the tail before the monster dies.

Had a buddy hop in, chop his tail off an voila, after about 20 hunts finally got like 3 of them.

Not too sure how good the guides are online with this monster either, but I myself was trying to get them off of investigations, and just doing the free-roam stuff. Well it turns out, the drop rates for investigations, and the free-roam stuff are even worse than doing the optional quests.

Finally posted the optional quest to give it a shot, again buddy joined, chopped off tail, and ended up with 3 marrows.

Apparently, "according" to the guides I've seen the optional quests (not free roam,or investigations), have about a 5% chance to drop a Marrow in the reward, and around a 7% chance to carve it from the tail.

Take with that what you will. I'm just glad I personally got that crap over with. Tired of doing nothing but hitting the tail, only for the monster to end up dead before it gets cut off. And thank god that was the only Monster thus far, I haven't received the rarest item from first run.

It always seems to be the parts you're looking for the most you never get, and then when you don't need them, they drop like hot-cakes. Maybe do a little reverse-psychology on the game, and tell it, you don't actually "want" the marrow lol.

Awwww, shouldn't you already know that since you played way more monster hunter than I did? Yes I will rub your face in it. Prick.

Check the on screen controls, it should show you what buttons you need to press, it's in the lower right half of the screen, right above where it shows the monster drops.
