Monster Hunter Worlds running on HDD, but installed on SSD.
I am struggling since release with the problem, that MH Wilds is fully installed on my SSD, yet it runs on my HDD and everything is incredibly slow. There is not a single game file on my HDD and I can't get the issue out of the way. So what is going on here? Why does the game not run on my SSD, despite it being downloaded there?!

I just want to play and progress with my friends, but I am struggling to get the game running since 4 days and I am so far behind in the story, someone please help me.

I have a suspicion as I have seen such before. Share a Dxdiag report for clarification.
if it runs from your HDD it's installed on your HDD. a game can't run from something it's not installed to. that would be like running a game that you haven't installed at all

I'm telling you, it is installed on my SSD, I double tripple checked.
The game files are all on my SSD.

If you do not want help, then it is fine. I tend to believe you, but only a DxDiag report can tell for sure.

How do I add files in here?
Because the dxdiag log is pretty long.

Ideally use pastebin.com or something like file.io to share

Yes. It is great like that. Good job. :MHRISE_OK:

It is as I thought, you are having a storage problem.

While that may be obvious, the actual issue you are having is related to the virtual memory.

You need to juggle around your stuff so you have on C: at least 180 GB free space, minimum 140 GB.

Then best if you set your virtual memory only to D:

For details to setup the virtual memory properly and manually check here tip #2
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3436896664

Did you play the beta before? If yes go check the installation folder if you have not yet - you could save 400 MB by deleting the old shader cache you find there.

Personally I recommend you go through the guide, as you can benefit from a proper cleanup of your PC - it is quite tight with space and I recommend strongly to upgrade your C: storage drive, replacing it with a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro (because you know it is good and cheap - comparitively

Overall your PC is great for gaming and I only see another hint of issue regarding the Visual C++ which is worth reinstalling. Other than that your storage capacity is currently bottlenecking your PC very hard. Everything else looks great. Many people forget or do not realise that they should keep vacant space available on C: , otherwise hidden temporary files do not work correctly - and you have that issue kinda right now, the way you described it - the system desperately trying to manage the virtural memory using the HDD on G: instead of C: or D:

Give it a go with making space and setting the virtual memory to D: only for the moment. Then ponder a hardware upgrade for C: --- There are cloning software which can make the upgrade easy -- all you need is an external NVMe case for cloning, which you can get via e.g. amazon.de for circa 25 EUR --- I did that myself not that long ago, upgrading my 500 GB SSD to 1 TB.

Viel Erfolg! :mhwgood:

Wow, thank you for the detailed explannation, but I have one question...
I do not know how to manage virtual memory and all that.
And, well, money for a new SSD isn't really there at the moment, so I'm stuck with the one I have.

Performance Tip 2: Virtual Memory
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3436896664
I added screenshots there so you can find it - where to set the virtual memory / pagefile.

Let me know if something is unclear about that.

And yeah, I can understand the money situation (if you check my forword in the guide :lisr_chloe_laughing: )

Best one can do is e.g. putting some stuff on USB sticks first, or use e.g. Google Drive / MEGA

Those free webhost services you can put your stuff onto until you have more money for an upgrade,

I am using Google Drive myself and can recommend it. It needs a short setup and one needs to understand how the file streaming works. But once you got it, it is extremely flexible.
Make sure when adjusting the virtual memory: disable it for C: and G:

and then do it only for D: - set it to 65536 : 65536
I get a notification Everytime I enter the game that it's not saved on my SSD but it is. Idk why it thinks it running in my HDD but I get the notification every single time I open the game. Definitely busted. Nothing game related is saved on my HDD.

Best you make your own thread about that and share a DxDiag report and screenshots of your Steam Library folders.

Hi, I'm sorry to bother you again, but I tried everything the past day, but nothing works, even all my other games run on my HDD now, I don't know what else to do.
And my D: drive is a Windows dump drive, so not a real drive, it only has 400mb of storage. I'm still helpless.

And my D: drive is a Windows dump drive, so not a real drive, it only has 400mb of storage. I'm still helpless.

I suggested to put the pagefile on D: because it looked like it had more space than the others. But if it has not enough space, then it is not enough. You might really need to outsorce the storage for the moment or check what can be deleted.

The most important at the moment you taking control about

- where is MHW installed?
- how much REAL space is available on every drive?
- how to put the virtual memory

Overall you have are still at the limits considering your previous DxDiag report. Do you have no chance to make a cleanup or put the files elsewhere? Consider deleting the hibernation file and reducing trash bin.

Also do some cleaning with Revo Uninstaller, removing stuff you do not need, while CCleaner helps checking for unnecessary stuff.

The app Treesize can be of help for you finding stuff which you could delete: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/treesize-free-portable
