Anyone else completely bewildered by the charge blade?
I've tried this blasted thing out in two games so far and I still can't get my head around how the hell it works, beyond the basics. You can charge the phials, you can charge the shield, you can charge the sword. I can do all of these things now after much practice, but I'm struggling with how to get the super amped elemental discharge to trigger without wasting my phials getting to that point.

Maybe look for a guide on YouTube, I was struggling with Long Sword and after watching I guide I now understand the weapon better. Of course I'm still struggling, but practice makes perfect.

I heard this guy has really good tutorials! Hope this helps :3

Charge Blade was awesome in MHGU, awesome in World, somewhat downgraded but still usable in Rise....
I'm not sure now since I haven't tried it in Wilds yet, but I've heard bad things about it now needing to hit wounds just to get spinny.... which sounds like they've destroyed the best part of the weapon.

As for just triggering the SAED though.... it should still just be a matter of charging up the shield, then filling your phials, going into Axe Mode, and pressing both attack buttons at the same time.

Get the Load Shells decorations, it makes life SO MUCH EASIER.

But, in short, I fill red vials, charge shield, immediately go for more charged vials, straight into a charged sword.

Takes me about 10 seconds.

But then I don't go for SAED, I am full on Savage Axe mode.

You can also go into savage axe from a perfect block. And savage axe last for ages (seemingly much longer than World?).

Chargeblade plays very differently in every game, even plays quite different from world to iceborne, I like this version but not nearly used to being in axe mode all the time since the mobility is quite bad, my favorite version of the weapon is still the 4U version (it's my main weapon there too).

So you can do the super amped elemental discharge after the regular elemental discharge. Basically, after the final normal elemental discharge attack, hit both attack buttons again and then you can do super amped elemental discharge. I mained this weapon in world, kinda not too happy with it in wilds but its alright. Im having fun with greatsword anyway.

You have to hit a wound with the wound breaking (forgor what it was called) attack to get it to spinny mode, and you can combo into an elemental discharges (and following super discharge) then. I would recommend not doing the big combo unless that wound youre targeting is on the monsters leg or something so you can knock it down before doing the big combo. Its big damage but it takes a while to come out.

You need to charge your shield to be able to use SAED. Each phial consumed gives 25 seconds of shield charge. This is increased to 40 seconds if the phials are overcharged (i.e. if you've charged them again after they've already been charged). You can go into SAED from AED or AED follow-up. You can also go into SAED after a successful block. I am probably missing some stuff here.

Oh that would explain a lot.

So the normal phials can't be used for that? It needs a shield charge?

On the subject of phials, they fill up white normally, right? What does it mean if they fill up with a different symbol? I think it was yellow with a little lightning bolt or something like that over the top of the phial. It was the same weapon. I was just messing around in the training room.

Ah, I imagine overcharging is what those alternate symbols mean then.

I don't even recall that being a thing in World.
They made charge blade so that you use all of the weapon this time. Even more incentive to learn how to perfect block to trigger the axe mode buff instead of relying on wounds. Love charge blade
i played a lot of CB in rise, and it's one of my main weapons now in wilds.
the big difference in how i use it in wilds is instead of using all my phials for the super elemental discharge attack (this is what i would 90% of the time in rise), i instead do the basic 1 button axe combo instead. the super elemental discharge seems slower in this version. i only use it now when the monster is paralyzed or i know will be open for like 5 secs.

This is my first major MH and from the get go I figured I'd try the most technical/complex weapon they had. And this was it.
I struggled figuring out how this thing operated until for some reason while on the test dummy for 15min it finally clicked.
Not a fan of the bounce back considering how fast you can charge the thing, but it's my McDonalds atm, and I'm loving it.
The Axe pull button swap on some combos is annoying as well and gets me in trouble sometimes. Yet I doubt that will be addressed at all.
Be warned as the next one I went for was the longsword. Another fun one.

short answer: you can perfect guard into SAED

better answer: dont use it, savage axe is this games go-to, you should be trying to land many smaller hits then burn all 5(10) phials on a single attack
What's the advantage of this thing over the switch axe (other than the shield)? That seems a lot easier to use and causes a lot of explosions with simple to use attacks, from what I've experienced so far.
