Gemma's design makes no sense for a smith.
If you want lewd smith do apron with side boob and cleavage i don't mind sexy. Her hair is INSANE for a forge with all those moving parts and just smith work in general. That little braid? that will catch on fire, her belly showing is bad for smithy, no hair covering.

She looks like she was made with another role in mind.

Edit: You can say it's a game, It's not real, etc all you want it's just weird to me as they keep trying to move towards being more serious and realistic in some places but they make this bizarre design for a smith. She would have been better as a handler or something else with that design. She reminds me of the one bounty lady from world.

Edit 2: Again I don't mind how much skin she's showing it's more how it's showing for her role. If she was Handler, Bounty lady like world, or something else it wouldn't bug me at all. It's just an argument of I don't like it because it does not fit her role. Anyone arguing otherwise is missing the point.

She doesn't have the giant mitts of Little Miss Forge who has straps for lifting her overalls which COULD protect her in the forge. Mitts young smith in Iceborne has and I think even the original smith has, BOTH have belly protection which if your not aware is where sparks are most likely to hit. BOTH don't have hair dangling right by working parts (beard for original World smith is arguable). The young hunter even has his hair back it's much shorter and the guys in the back working use leather aprons.

They cared in World. They had a design that made sense. If you want sexy smith it's not hard and I like that too. Gemma is just awful design for a smith.

What the hunter wears does not affect her. Little Miss Forge at least had a GIANT hammer, Mitts, and overalls that could protect her. Hell Little Miss Forge didn't have a stupid half jacket thats going to trap hot air blasting out the forge and sweat her out.

Edit 3: Layered Armor and your Hunter creations are your choices in how you engage the world. You choosing to not engage in any level of realism to the games world (or lack of choice in regards of maintaining enjoyment) isn't an excuse for an NPC who is shaped by developers over several hours of work from multiple people to match the world.

Also how often is video game logic known to not be an excuse? Seems dishonest to try that. And even with that logic remember Cool Drink is a thing to prevent damage from heat. I'm quite sure plenty of you would be very engaged in watching an animation of sweaty Gemma gulping down a Cool Drink to stay cool. But Cool Drinks don't stop burns so even then.

Edit 4: Because many seem to unable to comprehend this I will clarify. It’s not purely about realism. It’s more about the departure from previous design within the games universe for the other human blacksmith’s.

Especially when Gemma has a much larger focus on her than any other blacksmith in the series as far as I can recall.

It took longer than i thought for this topic to show up, someone arguing realism in a video game.

we have a large check list of things making "no sense" and this one is at the very bottom.

Edit: This thread appears to be a month old as of this post, why do you guys keep bumping these rotting topics.

thread was made on 5th of march soo ;p
Gemma is a cool character, if I wanted to see realism, I'd watch a big boned dude with waxed scalp slam iron on youtube ;D

Imagine complaining about boobs and not the fact that The Forge is a mobile kebab wagon that creates weapons that can conquer the world. :mhwhappy:

Logic. :mhwno:

Alma is also a great character, she looks at the hunter like the hunter is her whole world and she's too shy to express it

I have no issues with alma besides how much she has to repeat voice lines. Hope she gets more variance in lines later iceborne like expansion or unique lines for outfits maybe.

Last post for me, it's because i find it mildly amusing to see envious, anger filled people try to find reasons to spread their hate towards something or someone with complete brainrot logic. :steamhappy:
How do you know she's lewd? Are you staring at something and getting lewd thoughts?

Isn't that you just being a pervert?

I never said it wasnt fanservice, of course it is, but the implication of the op is that its a bad thing and should be shamed, which I don't agree with at all.
To add to this I want to say that treating fanservice characters like this, or female characters that show skin, further pushes women into "object territory"
Yes, fanservice is kinda bad. I'm not a crusader, I'm only in here because the thread is active, but come on guys.

We don't need to sit around ogling at titties and then turn around and talk about how respectful that is to women. Fanservice characters didn't suddenly become objects when they were criticized, they were like that when they were designed that way.

Imagine a cat like creature smiting they would be bald pretty fast from the heat 🤣 not to mention how cats just grab anything rofl

I don't understand the logic behind trying to full realism games unless the games intent is "realism"

Never said full realism thats a strawman. And other smiths in the games have better smithing outfits. And its quite consistent throughout the series just how insanely durable palicos are as compared to Humans which is what Gemma is.

Wanting any realism in a game not focus around any bit of realism lol like I said before "cool drinks"

Internal consistency is a thing guys. It's not as simple as just "hurr hurr realism", otherwise we might as well just throw in aliens and time travel.

Hey man, I'm just worried about her, gotta protect those righteous things, and anyone used a grinding wheel can tell you, safety first.

At least she's got eye pro tho

cool drinks only protect from heat not burns or fire damage. Even flames decos only reduce fire damage. Then you have the matter of her hair which if it was like all tied up or behind her would be mostly fine but she has that one part that right by where she hammers while having a giant wheel by her.

Yes she protects herself from heat with it, and as for hair lol well I can walk through a litteral volcano and not be bald, some suspension of disbelief is necessary sometimes xD

While it technically doesn't prevent burns or catching fire, most smiths even in real life do not catch themselves on fire. I'm sure some do haha and most probably get burns, but also it's a game. She will never "make a mistake" her animation is set to a very specific thing.

While I understand what you are saying for some realism, it also doesn't matter. If they wanted her to forge naked (which I don't want) for arguments sake haha, still not an issue. Yeah it's "unsafe" for humans, but these aren't actually humans you need suspension of disbelief.
