I heared the combat in this game usually felt very clunky. Is this still the case with monster hunter wilds?

The combat feels great, the controls are what's clunky.

The combat is chunky :steamhappy:

You don't have to use the d-pad to attack, so its not like the olden days. lol

If you're on mouse and keyboard you will immediately notice that this game was designed for controllers. The menus are a convoluted mess and the keybindings are all over the place on keyboard, but you can get used to it. From a new player's perspective though the initial impression will be these controls are total ass, I'd imagine. But it's worth getting used to them and learning the game, because once you do the combat is awesome.

What makes the combat awesome?

I always liked to use the word "deliberate" instead of "clunky" when it came to Monster Hunter combat, I liked that every action had a consequence.

To answer your question though, this is the most streamlined and easy to use combat outside of Rise. Focus mode allows you to aim your attacks and even readjust your aim mid animation for a lot of weapons. A lot of actions that used to require consequence can now be done while walking or on your mount. So what people considered "clunky" is pretty much entirely removed.

Yep most weapons have clunky slow combat,,,,,
Whats worse there are only a FEW combo's for each weapon , completely BORINGG.....

BUt what really does it are the TERRIBLE MENU controls !!!!!

This game feels really DATED like all the other monster hunters !!!!

Feels as if you are playing a NINTENDO DS !!!

On top of that most monsters are easyy,,, every battle FEELS THE SAME !!!!!
Going crazy with your 2 or 3 weapon combos on a different SPRITE MONSTER,!!!
Resulting in the same type of battle as previous monster !!!

It feels and LOOKS as a NINTENDO DS GAMe from AEONS ago !

Big numbers.
Compared to the usual ADHD-systems of modern action battle systems it feels pretty clunky, like you're gonna get punished hard for dumb decisions and can't just dodge your way out mid-attack.

For a Monster Hunter however it feels quite light, especially with the focus mode wich finally allows you to aim more easily. If you're a beginner them you might still need some training to get to the point of where you feel confident, but this one is definitely the easiest to get into the series as of now with all the QoL-additions.

Every single MH game to me has felt clunky, and I've never been able to get into any of them, except this one. I don't know what clicked, but it did. Starting out it still felt clunky tbh, everything felt bad then I forced myself to try hammer, and eventually liked the 2h sword.

All that while having a MENU system that is silly, PREss RB then press x or B then release then press X to use item now want to use other item !!! Have to press RB again click thre or four time son X or B release and press X again to use,,,,,

The Radial menu makes it barely better !!!

I don't see why these fanboys all think this is great rememberable combat ???

I really don't see it ...

ALL battles feel the same because of lack of variety in combo's...

I come from playing FF7 Rebirth ,,,,, then you really realise how sad SLOW BORING REPPETITIVE combat system in monster hunter wilds is !!!

Really boring game !!!
I will see it through for now,, but dont expect to be playing this for long !!
