Any lance tips? I watched a lot of YT guides but Id love to hear from you lance mains!
1:When do you use the RT+O guard? And the big guard you can do by pressing A in that stance?

2:Wich return counter thrusts should I be doing etc?

3:Also positioning is hard. Like, I fought this monster where I had to destroy thingies on his back but when it fell I was on the belly side not giving my enough time to run to its back and hit it, any tips on that?

4:And should I be doing high thrusts or low thrusts?

5:End with tripple poke or better to end with O finisher?

6: any other advice you can give me would be awesome! <3

i looked at them all, the only thing that came close to the coolness of the lance is the gunlance and sword and shield.

But their combos seemed complicated so lance it was!

(I love shields and tanking, being a bastion)
poke and charge poke and sometimes u block poke

I have picked up Lance for this playthrough and I think I can give you some pointers.

1: If you know the moves of the monster you can time the release of the RT + O with the moment the enemy hits you to deal a big counter hit. This does more damage than your RT -> Block -> O Counter. But it is harder to pull off. The RT + O + X Power Guard is used to first absorb a massive enemy attack and then use the O follow-up to deal damage based on the damage absorbed. Can be huge.

2: I would personally always just do the O after the counter.

3: Make an Evade Extender Talisman. And put Jumping Jewels into your armour until you get Evade Extender 3. This is a must-have imho.

4 + 5: I think the first 2 High Thrust do more damage than the first 2 Low Thrusts. But the 3rd attack in the combo is stronger as low thrust than high thrust.

I think the optimal combo is:
O -> O -> Δ-> Δ Triple Thrust.

But the most powerful combo, even though it'll take more time is:
X + O -> X + O -> Δ -> Δ Triple Thrust.

And in the most optimal cases:
X + O -> X + O -> Δ -> O Perfect Counter Thrust.

I love the Lance in Wilds. But I am by no means a veteran. If someone finds an error in my description please correct it.

Gunlance isn't too bad actually, it's mostly timing your bursts and figuring out whether or not its a good time to do your wyrmstake full blast or not. Sometimes you just want to full burst slam, sometimes you want to just pop a quick wyrmstake in, sometimes you have the opening to full wyrmstake combo into a double wyvernblast. The individual combos are actually really simple, it's just finding the right times to use them per individual monster that makes it complicated.

Edit: I forgot to mention your focus strike is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mini dragonator.

TBF I always wanted to main lance, I just never got into it. I even used sword and shield for some time but the damage output put me off.

On Wilds, Im going main charge blade and the mobility + guarding + dodging feels so good and balanced. I used to main Hammer which has a ton of mobility and dodge but lacks cutting power and a block. I also used to main Longsword back in MHFU so I guess I do like huge damage outputs and cutting tails.

Since Ive been loving CB I was thinking about trying Lance or Gunlance (which curiously was my first weapon on MHFU before going longsword/hammer), but I havent tried it yet. Hunting horn feels cool and I also want to try dual blades again. I guess Ill never have time for the lances x.x
1. Literally all the time, the alternative guard is for those big mega hits that will still do damage even if you counter

2. The regular one is just fine

3. Lance is one of the most mobile weapons but you might still have to put it away and sprint every once in awhile

4. Depends on how tall the target is. They're both pretty even.

5. See above

6. Be aggressive

Firstly, this is the best guide to lance I havge seen if you havent yet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU7hZsDQ8HQ&ab_channel=AManInTheWest

1. I use RT+B in instances where i know once large single attack is coming to counter with a Y+B retri thrust where time permits

2. Its a time thing, if you have time to do Y+B then you do Y+B, otherwise generally B. the Y isnt very good and only marginally faster.

3. Using the lance charge helps here, RT+Y+B and you can jump over smaller monster parts giving you a more direct route. Guard Dash is also very key for positioning, RT+Y

4. its another time thing as far as I can tell, high is slower and more damage, i generally just to mid thrusts so i dont have to button swap... me like lazy

5. always triple poke. no need to end in a counter you can trigger at any time anyway.

6. practice perfect guard timing, utilise Guard Dashes for repositioning with your guard up poke them in the nads.

Never use return thrust unless it’s quick multi hit attacks like Quematrice head pokes.

Only use retribution thrust from perfect guards or power guards.

Do power guard into grand retribution thrusts on roars.

Don’t bother with guard in this game, just use guard up on Gravios/final boss, and I think Gore has an attack that needs it. Maybe Arkveld with that nova spin move that wasn’t in the beta.

Don’t use counterstrike. Burst and WEX are our best armor skill attack decos.

You can cancel triple post into guard on the last poke only. Don’t get too greedy!

Use power guard if you think the attack might hit behind you. Such as black flame bombs, Jin Dahaad body slam, Arkveld chain sweep.

Charged counter is our strongest attack, use it on attacks that have long windups. Like Arkveld slams, Doshaguma slam, Gore wing tackle.

1a. when you might get hit. 1b. when you're going to get hit

2, 4, 5. whatever will hit

3. stop using lance 1v1 jin dahaad/ RT+YB to charge

6. you can charge downhill and get a jump attack.
I'll also add that sheathing and unsheathing the weapon might be better in certain situations so if you need to strongly reposition yourself you can use your mount or just sheathe the weapon
