Always use tip #16 game update routine here - better if you add tip #17

Seems to be crashing the nvidia gpu driver specifically from the looks of it but I'm not sure what's triggering it.
yes after my first 2 crashes, i changed my graphics to medium even tho setting them to very high didnt even use half my VRAM, and i still crashed afterwards.
thank you for this guide! i will follow these tips and ill see if they work or not!!
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13650HX ~2.6GHz
RAM: 16GB
VRAM : 8GB
GPU: GeForce RTX 4070
The older version will crash on start up.
I encountered the same problem after the recent update.
The step I tried to fix:
1. I removed the mod and shader cache from the game directory.
2. Disk cleanup and check the direct X cache
3. Reinstall the game
Hope it helps.
Additional note: newer version REFramework update fix the crash on start up problem
no i haven't installed any mods! but this will help people who have! so thank you !!
i followed these steps and my game now loads up with a grey screen???
Grey screen? That sure is news.
Did you restart your PC beforehand, so tip #17 could go into effect?
Did you modded the config ini or anything else?
yes i restarted my pc after doing the tips, and no i didn't touch anything unless told to in the tips :')
The adhoc solution which is supposed to guaranteed fix it, would be tip # 1 - reinstalling the graphics card drivers. If that solves the problem we can tell safely that it is not a game issue.

Alternatively you could try deleting the config file and shader cache in the game's folder again - forcing the game to recompile shaders under vanilla settings. But if that does not help, DDU is the only way to go.
Did you have a Windows update or anything recently which might explain that?
Any extra devices connected which you have not before, like new controller, unused VR headset and alike?
Initial install was fine, closed game to install high res texture pack... big mistake now I have had nothing but issues, game crashing the entire PC then a black screens with just steam frame rate counter. Removed texture pack, verified files = second successful attempt.
Noticed the advanced options was missing after second successful attempt getting into the game so saved the design then closed the game via right click context menu.
Re-launched game, yay advance character options now there... but! I can't even see the palico in the create a character screen anymore. Exited game now.... I can't even get back into the game, restarted pc... same black screen issue.
Oh... I also got the game is not supported on this platform error messages after adding high res texture pack to the library. Removing it from the DLC option list allows game to load... go figure.
Verifying game files again.... this will be the third attempt and then I'm refunding the game, I bought the premium deluxe edition.... against my better instincts. Lo and Behold! Premium Glitches! smh.
Update: Just got "An Error occurred when launching this game: Invalid platform" again.... smh. Refunding the game.
Updated 2: Well... that was unexpected, the game crash somehow corrupted my chipset drivers as no other steam game would run also throwing up the invalid platform error. The only other time I had this issue occur was when the NVME drives got too hot causing the actual chipsets to heat up considerably. This only occurred during the hot summer months. Dialing the Gen Speeds to 3 helped cool things down as well as using custom doubled sided heatsinks finned low profile heatsinks.
So ran DDU, removed the chipset drivers and gpu drivers (can't really choose either or) in safe mode and reinstalled them. Now all I've had to contend with was the game not loading when high res textures was ticked, unticked, re-verified files a fourth time and now game is running without issues so far... but! now my controller stops working when prompted to press any key, I can accept the auto-save prompt lol.... So still yet to go beyond the char creation screen.
