I know, right?

It's like it isn't even Monster Hunter anymore. More like Edge Hunter: Afghanistan edition.

I dunno, Wilds kind of just hands everything do you

I meant all the pop ups that are literally on every single interaction, that explain in endless texts the game when you can just look at the system and see it imidiatly how it works.

God of War does that too, you are not allowed to figure it out yourself you have to follow the unskippable interface tutorial step by step, when you already know what an inventory is, what an map is etc etc.

Edit: and you get into the gameplay imidialty in WIlds, you are not forced to run into the world, hide from stuff, then reach the hub, then get your hand holded where everything is, then you get 10 min of expostion, then you can finaly equip a weapn and then you have to get through way more tutorials and expostiuon until you finally can do your first quest, that is full of tutorals and exposition too.

Wilds is literally directly inspired by the game the director imagined when he first experienced the first and second Gen.

I agree.

Also love, base camp? We got a lot of supply shortages out here in the desert, but we always have two things in full supply: Cats, and waifus.

Just because they put Kut-ku, Gypceros, Gravios in game?

Other than that, I don't have 1-2 nostalgia feelings.

The art direction is also different. Everything looks like Muddy style. The songs don't feel it.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the art director is Kaname Fujioka who directed the first game.
And also, the director of Wilds directly said his vision for the game comes from the PS2 games
This is spoilers, but the story of Wilds is based on the original setting they made for Monster Hunter when it was early in development, back when it was planned to be more dark.
Jesus christ LOL. This game is far from dark, even in the new setting in wilds. It's a kitchy, silly, cute cat fighter filled game. With plenty of weebu inducing females, and over the top absolutely ridiculous fighting that resembles final fantasy advent children more than the original fighting style from the PS2 games. It's not hand holdy!? your mount literally runs you to your objective automatically passing easy pickups on the way so you basically have to do nothing to pursue the enemy. It is the most streamlined experience in any monster hunter and holds your hand more than any other monster hunter game to date. They used to be hard and you used to have to work to understand the mechanics a little more. This monster hunter is going to be dominated by my 5 year old daughter.

How is the seikret autopathing handholding?
Like that just seems weird to shove undeer that umbrella, like its ok if you dont like it, you dont have to use it, but, being able to tell your mount to autopath to a certain spot isnt handholding.
Like, handholding usually is things like forced pop up tutorials etc not just a simple travel mechanic.

On a different note, its very appreciated, being able to hop onto the mount, resharpen my lance and heal up and then set down the controller for a sec to drink some soda and eat a slice of piizza before we lock in again into combat is much nicer than the "highly engaging" activity of walking behind a monster.

Thats the only part i think is silly there tho, games definitely not what id call dark
You are heavily exagerating the how easy it is tho, not that difficulty and darkness are in any way related.

It sounds more like something he wanted to do but couldn't do in the PS2 era.

I took a break from the Monster Hunter franchise after playing MHW, but when i played this Beta it immediately reminded me more of the PS2/PSP games. Not much, it's still closer to MHW, but it certainly felt different.
Nice to get a confirmation, thank you.

Yes! MHW compared to Wilds and the ps2 games feels like a japanized feverdream.
