Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

I don't like the direction this series has taken.
Even ignoring the horrible graphics and performance of the beta, I'm not a fan of 95% of the changes they've made since World. I've played since MH3U and watched this series continue to discard what made it unique, with Wilds to me being almost unrecognizable.

Why am I forced into a giant open world? Where is the monster tracking? Why am I forced to use the glorified Chocobos from Final Fantasy? Why did they add Bioware style conversation with NPCs? Why do they continue to make gathering easier and more pointless with things like being able to gather from a distance? Remember picks and consumable nets?

Going back to MH4U on my 3DS it's amazing the difference. The world was so much more immersive (and comically, 4U looks about as good as Wilds does) and it felt like a HUNT. Like I was SURVIVING in the world hunting down a monster. Wilds feels like a hub game. There is no sense of danger or immersion anymore.

It's almost identical to the experience I had playing Classic World of Warcraft after playing 15+ years and going back and remembering all the stuff that Blizzard removed for the sake of "quality of life" not understanding that the little details that slow you down make the game immersive and fun.

Even if this game ran perfect and had great graphics it barely plays like Monster Hunter anymore.

Why is gathering easier? That's 1 of the fewer changes I welcome lol its a game about hunting monsters, not gathering resources like its a survival game lol I do not wanna go back to breaking tools and having to do runs just to craft tools only to do another run for the materials of my next 5 hunts in a tedious grind where I ignore hunting for over an hour to do it lol

I also have 4U on my 3DS and I know your straight up lying about the looks 🤣

You really out here trying to with a straight face tell me they look similar rofl and you have the audacity to complain about "little details" ain't no way haha
I really agree, sadly. MHW was an acceptable level of QoL improvements for the most part over the classic formula (except for the unskippable cutscenes and obnoxious scoutflies), but rise and now wilds is especially bad. Its definitely lost that "something" that made the games so special.

MH3/4U and MHGU is probably peak MH :(
What do you want monster hunter to be like? My gold standard was 3u, i was very disappointed when 4 did not have underwater combat in it.

IMO they always wanted monster hunter to be open world but due to technical limitation could not achieve it.

When i got into world, it felt odd seeing mh on the big screen, yet had a blast, though the honeymoon phase did not last and worlds bad monster variety really became a drag, iceborne was a good upgrade, but it brought its own problem via the clutch claw.

Rise was interesting, as i saw it as very experimental, riding your dog evolved into your bird mount in wilds, as they really like to throw ideas against the wall and see what sticks in those titles. We will likely get a portable title on the new switch 2 as well.

The old systems had their charm, but i do not miss them, nets and picks were just a time limit on how long you could gather, and it just filled up slots, once i maxed out the farm, i never worried about gathering at all anymore. The real meat of monster hunter are the big fights, and the devs know that, so they cut down on the tedious stuff to make it easier to reach the meat.

BTW i had quit quests due to forgetting to restock my items before, just another thing slowing down what i'd rather be doing, hunting monsters. Though i did find it funny that you would get sick if you ate fish with milk.
The bird is optional, it's why you can call it. You can track the creatures same was as before, just follow the scout fly trail. Understand that the beta we have knowledge of the creatures, it's why we can see the skull before they die for instance.

Why did they add conversations with NPC's? Story narrative and you've always talked with them, just not in this kind of detail. MH's stories in the past (ORiginal game.) was cutscenes and hunt boards/missions. You always had interaction though.

Making things easier is known as "Accessibility." as more and more players discover the game, they have to look at the mark of the player's playstyles and I dunno if you've noticed or not, but this generation of gamers, likes their handsheld. So, if they introduce something difficult, it sparks complaints, those complaints turn into negative feedback, negative feedback turns into stress on the developers to change something their vision entailed and it is all to sate the players you are unhappy with in the first place. So, they cut out the middleman and offer an "Option." to harvest that way. Not a big deal.

Also, "Why the open world."? Why not an open world? You want to hunt don't you? MH PS2 game was in a smaller arena area with multi leveled spots and it tried tried its best to simulate an open world to immerse the player and there is your answer, immersion.

Monsters aren't confined to arenas, you're hunting them. If you want to fight in the arena though, there are fights where we caught them and you can fight them in a controlled arena.
I originally started the series from freedom 2 on the psp then Unite up until the present, wilds feels like a massive improvement. I hated how clunky world felt and disliked how overturned rise was. Wilds improves on every aspect, the weapons and monster animations are phenomenal, but the performance is horrible. I don't want to go back having a pickaxe break in storage, or having to carry a book of combos to waist inventory space. If I had to rank the games I would say Wilds>4U>3U>then freedom Unite are my favorites. Trust me, gathering in the old games was not fun, was just playing 3U recently, explored the desert map and found an egg nest, decided to carry the egg all the way back to camp, only to be told that it's not redeemable, since I didn't choose a gathering mission. Also tried to do the shark hunting quest, but was hit with the realization that you had to buy harpoons from the shop before taking on the quest. Being able to go back to base camp to restock is an improvement.

My only main gripe with the game would be the recommended specs. Originally played the first beta with a 2070 nvidia laptop, meeting all recommended specs. The gameplay was fine, but the environment looked like mud was smeared all over the screen. Once I upgraded to a Amd Radeon rx 7600 xt gpu for my other setup, the backgrounds actually looked good for once. I feel like recommended specs should be changed to minimum specs. I don't understand why setting everything to low on PC's with recommended specs looks worse than most modern games. But you have to be joking if you're saying wilds looks worse than a 3ds game.
Because making the game easier and more accessible to more people means more money, and they care more about that than making a better game.

All valid complaints tbh

I haven't played the underwater combat 1 lol but if it's fun and done right I ain't got an issue with it.

Like guild wars 2 did alright with it, not that I want that for MH lol it's just the only game I have ever played thay had underwater combat 🤣 so if it was fun and not super janky then I'd gladly love to have it again.

But it might be better off not in all titles either, idk have to see how it goes first :aushrug:

Personally, i have always had a fascination with what dwells beneath the depths, were there greater beasts than ceadus?

Perhaps something worse than fatalis slumbers in the dark abyss of the sea.

While no underwater stuff, that one in thay trailer that appears to be in water causing crazy waves looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome! Can't wait to crash my fps playing it 🤣
Given that we can swim/dive in this game, it's very likely water combat will return.
Honestly I don’t care about single player storyline. Play once and forget.
Gathering made easier\faster is a plus, more time hunting than slow tedious gathering stuff.

All I gotta say is some Quality of life changes is needed and necessary so I don't mind. I mean we all hate loading screens so why do some classic hunter want zones back? Tracking all end up the same anyway. What I mean is later during master rank in 4U they put you near or directly to the monster anyway so really the only tracking is throwing the paintball.
Sounds like you are just experiencing the disconnect between the two series of main monster hunter games, those for portable consoles, and those made for 'real' hardware, computers and non-mobile consoles.

It is kind of weird to see someone prefer the monster hunter-lite skew of games over the larger main-console games though.
