Monster Hunter Wilds
New Insect Glaive
How are you guys coping with it? :') I managed to keybind it to work like WORLD but the descending thrust part is throwing me off when pairing it with focus mode for a guaranteed hit.

so, is getting triple buff and doing looping ground combos dead now?

You can only do infinite ground combos without charging, which from what I read is bad DPS compared to just doing charge attacks into finisher (which bores me to death). there is no "charged" looping combo for continuous damage.

If so, they gutted my baby. I'm sad I can't wail on a monster with triple buff while it's down for a while, it was my favorite thing about the weapon. Wish you could at least hold off using the "finisher" and actually fight the monster for a while.

I can't stand intentionally made sucky controls of this weapon, I want to play it but I just can't pull of the most efficient moveset with my basic xbox controller. Who thought this was a good idea and have they even played the weapon them self and thought "yeah lets ship this"?

Absolutely horrible layout and I'm not going to break my hand playing this weapon I hope some modder will fix it.
100% correct, it seems to be more effeciently playable on mouse and keyboard. i tried with controller and it absolutely sucks bolls.

basic Xbox controllers can't do the Charge Kinsect move without claw grip, and yeah this sucks.

With Dualshock or some other gyro-supported controller it is easier to do (as this removes the need for right stick for aiming). Also a controller with back paddles can also help.

Charged combos however should be fairly straightforward with any controller? I've seen people say you need claw grip for those but I haven't come across the need as of yet.

you actually can do infinite combo with charged attack. how i did it was I held the charge attack which is [Right Mouse Button], and spammed light attacks with [Left Mouse Button]. When I reach the spinning attack from the combo, i leg go of the Right Mouse button which will do the normal Heavy slash attack, then do the Charge descending slash attack, then i loop back with the light attack which chains seamlessly while charging again, no lag inbetween.

oh okay! I will try this, that will alleviate my biggest disappointment about the weapon.

question is, is this combo viable DPS? or is doing the finisher as soon as possible better?

if so I hope they nerf the finisher damage or change something about it.
Since this thread is filled with IG users, I figure I can ask:

Do IG users find the whole extract system fun? I've never really touched the IG because the extract part always felt like needless fiddly busywork, but the weapon is pretty fun on its own with the multi-hitting grounded moves and on-command aerial action.

I just don't get why it has all the bug parts of the weapon. Always felt unnecessary to me. I might actually try it for a while in Wilds because focus attacking a wound circumvents all the extract collection minigames.

once you get used to getting the extracts it's just second nature. In World, really all you needed was Red buff to get your DPS online. Then you could grab White and Orange while avoiding attacks or whatever else.

In Wilds you need all three, but now there's like half a dozen different ways to get all three. they made it braindead easy to get all extracts in Wilds. this also makes it less dynamic in Wilds compared to World (I feel it waters down the whole point of the extract system)

I loved the bug in World because it could put Blast clouds on the field you could hit for blast damage. felt so satisfying to hit those. I believe that part of the kinsect is pretty unchanged in Wilds.

I'm no IG main by any means, but I appreciate the return to form with a heavy focus on grounded fighting, as well as better integration of the kinsect to the moveset. How do all the glaive mains feel about the return of 4U's nurturing system?

I saw one guy actually liking the Glaive focusing solely on getting all 3 extracts instead of tunnel visioning the red extract which brought back the core mechanic of the Glaive. and he was right coz in WORLD the red extract kinda makes the rest of the extracts undesirable. so this time they make sure you get all 3 extracts to get the weapon's full potential. but its also easier to get extracts since you dont need to always shoot out your bug to get them.

I wouldn't say they were undesirable in World.

White still functioned as a catalyst for Red, making the damage even stronger. and Orange + White gave you light earplugs and some defensive buffs. Triple Buff was basically Burst Mode where you want to maximize your attack before it runs out.

"Tunneling Red" is actually not a good strategy in World.

I just think requiring all three buffs is extreme. it removes player expression and freedom by forcing you into a decision, and that on-the-fly decision making of what buffs you want is what made the extract system fun.

TBH, if I recall correctly, full rainbow wasnt heavily desired in 4th Gen either, but Rainbow was just that good to try to go for it, I think it was red/white was ideal. I also feel World took away emphasis on the bug, by regulating it to purely a powder machine, rather than an actual "partner" of sorts in combat, which many IG mains in 4th Gen really liked with the bug (they even featured this in Legends of the Guild). Seeing the return of nurturing is nice to see.

Picking just red was always lower DPS then Red+White.
The best strategy when not going for constant triple was get red&white, and then get orange to refresh the timer for all 3. Getting just red was a really bad plan

It depends on the build. Full triple was good if you made the triple up kinsect which was great for general use, but the double up kinsects could be more powerful on the right build. It really depended on your build and what kinsect you had as to the buffs you needed.
May I ask what controls you have binded to what? I have a friend that is struggling to figure out the downward thrust.
