Grammostola pulchra (Brazilian Black) is another good species.
Phobias are no joke.. games are supposed to be fun and entertaining, and there is nothing fun or entertaining about having your phobia triggered repeatedly while trying to play a game..
If an accessibility option exists it needs to work properly.
Comments: (mostly) making fun of OP for having a phobia.
Gotta love the Steam Forums
As someone who also has this problem and have made posts inquiring about how many / how bad / if there's an aracna-mode for them, I have seen the most insane hot takes, as if I'm demanding the devs do something about it or I will take the whole game off steam personally XD It's like...no of course I'm not demanding, I'm asking, cause 70 dollars for a repeat game where one of the only new monsters is something I can't handle may not be a game for me right now (especially cause modding in capcom world is harder), but screw me if I want to try, apparently lol
A phobia is quite literally a disorder based on, yes, irrational fear (we're not stupid, we understand it's irrational). The experience of confronting the phobia can cause fainting, panic attacks, vomitting, etc.
Only specific phobias can be possibly helped by exposure therapy, while other phobias are made worse by it. This phobia in particular is not one where "exposure" helps.
The phobia is, as you so kindly put it, irrational, meaning the fear doesn't stem from the logic that it is not real and cannot hurt us. It is, most commonly with this, the sight of 8 legs and how they move. A sprawled out octopus can yield similar results in the worst cases which will, again, cause fainting, panic attacks, vomitting, etc.
My friend, who can watch gore movies and works as an EMT, fainted when a needle got close to her. That's a phobia. I vomit, my blood pressure sky rocketing to the point of nearly fainting, when I see those things. That's a phobia.
Trust me, dear friend with limited knowledge, we'd love nothing more than to "get a grip", unfortunately with disorders, it's just not that easy.
And by the way, someone can simply not *like* something and inquire on its prominence in a game. I do hope you don't waste your time commenting on every post that mentions fears.
I do recommend, however, that you learn how silence is golden and your profound wisdom, that of which has *never* been uttered before in these threads, be kept to yourself, as it is not helpful and surely a waste of everyone's time.
It’s impossible for someone who does not suffer from the phobia to understand exactly how it feels. It’s not even just fear, it’s like a sub conscious primal instinct to avoid something.. it can make you actually feel physically sick. Cause nightmares etc.. Just seeing the movement or even a photo of them can trigger it.
Now imagine trying to immerse yourself in a game and having something like that filling your screen trying to kill you. Chasing after you.. Yeah we are well aware it’s not real, but even a photo makes me jump. The brain just needs something visual to trigger the response.
How can anyone expect someone to pay money for something to make them feel bad? Not a great business model.
And the solution is simple: make sure the accessibility phobia options are implemented properly. Then everyone can enjoy the game together.
I wrote Disney an email asking for a filter to replace the cobras, but I don't remember if they ever got back to me.
Edit: I also saw your comment to the other dude about exposure therapy and I'd like to add that exposure therapy is not only a phobia by phobia basis but also a case by case basis. Someone with agoraphobia (fear of people) may get better through exposure therapy and another person with agoraphobia may get severely worse.
Rupert Grint, you know, Ronald Weasely, is quite scared of spiders himself, but still had to do the giant spider scene in harry potter. You know, where they actually touched him, got close to him? Wanna know how he did it? He convinced himself, they aren't real, because he knows a spider isn't a big creature.
