Wilds Desert is just kinda ugly
I´m sure the later foresty and jungle type areas will look better, but the constant grainy and blurry feel the game has, coupled with the vast empty desert plains that are all the same color, really make the 1st area of the game feel incredibly ugly and offputting. Deserts did not look this bad in older games, but I´m guessing it´s cause the sand was a bit more brighter and the map design was ensuring it didnt constantly be the only thing you see. Hell I started playing Monster Hunter 1 last year and the desert in that game feels nicer than the Wilds desert, even if there´s an obvious difference in graphical fidelity.
This isn´t a deal breaker or anything I just wanted to complain a bit/discuss idk

You havnt even played world.... LOL

i did for like 3 hours, and i've seen many videos for both World and Wilds.
you can easily tell from any video or even a screenshot that Wilds looks worse, even with Youtube compression you can still notice the blurriness from the upscaling being used.
You really did not cause you dont own World.

i didnt know World was a Steam exclusive, thanks for the info
I also think it's ugly. I'm not doomposting the game in general, but I think the Windward Plains or whatever it's called is not a great first forward to show off the game. The dynamic weather system they're using as a core mechanic makes the map look really ugly a lot of the time.

The sandstorm makes everything a sludgy brown and the electric storm makes everything a sludgy gray. It's kind of bleak that the big opening vista on the title screen is really drab because it's all the same shade of brown as far as the eye can see.

I've got my fingers crossed for some nice reshade mods after the game's launch.

I agree. At least in the beta.

The setting is boring asf

I definitely agree on this. From what I've seen on the trailer on the other regions, Windward Plains seems to be the ugliest.

I've played the beta test for almost 30 hours and I am not liking the Fallow and Inclemency weather. it looks so bland.

When hunting back in the beta, I was always looking forward for the area to transition to the Plenty weather. It looks ten times better.

i think wilds desert looks a bajillion times better than whatever the hell the wildspire waste has going on, as a Desert area

it's not as pretty as earlier MH deserts were, i'll admit that much

Mad Max has the best desert, and that game is 10 years old by now.

Mad Max looked great for when it came out, it has aged now though.

If it had the sand effects from Wilds though, oof.

Art design is bad. It looks washed out with a realistic graphic style. Like mid day photographs. Their focus should have been less on realistic graphic and more on making a good looking art design.

How do you make a good looking desert? It's sand, in this case, it's sand and rocky cliffs with some oasis parts sprinkled in.

I think their mistake was making the first zone be a desert. a desert area is fine if its the 2nd or 3rd zone but its rather boring to have as a 1st zone as well, its a desert, there is never much there to see.

It's more that the map seems rather boring, with little to interact with and/or explore; rendering it a glorified placeholder for an area to fight monsters in.

'd like it if the maps were more vertical, had more nooks and crannies (and shortcuts) to avail, and just generally filled with more life beyond the collectable nodes. The game, so far, reminds me far too much of Dragon's Dogma 2; a game world that was lifeless and hit a very hard fun factor wall. An "ugly" landscape can still be interesting -- see: Hokuto no Ken / Fist of the North Star, or any number of 'Souls' biomes.

TL;DR version: It's RE Engine, stoopids.

I'll never understand how people can't see the difference from even world to this game, I can see the improvements and Ive got a degenerative eye disease 🤣
