Potato PCs. FSR vs XeSS upscaling? No DLSS.
I tested them both a bit on absolutely lowest / off settings on my potato pc and FSR seems to be gaining a bit more fps than intel XeSS.

Does anyone know the real difference between them on tech standpoint?

From what I've read XeSS uses hardware on arc gpus to do it and when your gpu is not arc gpu, it uses inferior ways to do the upscaling compared to how it would do it on dedicated hardware (arc gpu).

So I am assuming it's better to use FSR, at least for me, because I don't use intel gpu.

I am using i5-8600k and gtx 1070. With fsr and level of detail set to 0, It's about 23-26 fps in first locale and about 30 in the desert. At least... It's playable. Pixelated potato graphics but playable.

Must hoont.

P.S. DLSS is not available for my gpu and with upscaling disabled, it's about 15-20 fps in the first locale at most and that's without any fights going on.

P.S.S. Also note that the opening cinematic and ending cinematic do not represent gameplay fps and they scew the average fps in the end screen!

XeSS is AI trained and gives a better picture quality. It's more taxing on GPU though. FSR is the best choice if you want performance.

crappier CPU? XeSS
crappier GPU? FSR
although if you're already not expecting stable 60 with FSR you can just take the slight hit to performance from XeSS
fsr 3.1.3 It is the latest version of fsr and it works very very well, can't you activate framegen with that graphics?

I recommend FSR, just max out the sharpness so it doesn't look blurry.

I didn't try framegen in this benchmark but in last beta it introduced insane unplayable amount of ghosting and other issues. Didn't add much fps too.

When will they add a new version XeSS 2?

I have R5 5600x and bought b580, I'm so lazy to correct graphics, just use 2k with XeSS high-medium setting 40-60 fps

Xess looks better but runs a little worse like XESS Balance runs about the same as FSR at quality but looks slightly better but you don't get FSR framegen with XESS so if you don't plan on using Framegen try XESS out.

Usually in most game's XESS is a better upscaler than FSR fidelity wise but it doesn't run as well so you can expect XESS at Balance to look similar to FSR at Quality maybe even slightly better and run similar as it as well.

But if your talking about sheer performance boost FSR is the way to go it'l give you the best performance over XESS.

Check out DLSS Swapper it's free and you can update XESS and FSR.
This game is ridiculous on how graphic heavy is it. They have got to fix this man
