Investigations will sometimes have guaranteed gem drops, you should try for those. Otherwise the drop rate is abysmal like every MH game.

What was it? 3%?
Hardly the worst we've had... especially since we can get all sorts of additional loot from wound abuse, extra loot food skills, etc. The guaranteed gem drop investigation rewards are frankly overkill given the gold rewards also give a higher-than-usual chance of the gem.
The 'rare' drops are much easier to get in Wilds than in other MH games. Look for investigations which have this gem as a drop and join them if you can. Alternately, keep an eye on the maps and whenever you see a Gore Magala appear, which has this gem as one of the drops, add it as an investigation and you get a couple of chances to hunt it and get the gym guaranteed (assuming the hunts are successful).

alright
Sometimes it's a guaranteed extra reward during investigations, but you can also do one where you get a ton of extra monster materials, which increases your chance to drop one.
If you get one just save it and you have four gems drops or at least four times a high chance receiving one.

Carving the tail gives you a slightly higher chance of 7% instead of the usual 4%.

You can also add some extra rolls with a meal that gives you Pro Capture (Sild Meal) or Pro Varve (Azuz Everforge Meal).

But if you go for the tail the Carve Pro is the better choice giving you also extra carves for the tail. The skill is based on chance you can get lucky and get 3-4 extra carves from the tail alone and the first extra carve feels like it is guaranteed.

Also using a lucky voucher doubles the reward pool (and money)

It is not that low this time around. In fact it is quite high in comparison.

In addition to that one could make use of the carving and lucky skill to increase the chances significantly.

What part of Guaranteed Investigation Rewards do you not understand?
These things were meant to be rare and valuable. They're supposed to give a sense of accomplishment to get them. That is dead now. They're practically guaranteed after a hunt or two.

If you took the time to read the first reply to the thread, you'd know I already brought up the investigations and recommended the OP utilize them for the gems.

Would you rather lose sharpness on a chance or have a set ammount of time where you dont lose sharpness? Protective polish is pretty good if you have a weapon that eats through its sharpness, but its dependent on how you play.

Personally unless Im playing switch axe both skills are redundant with Grinder (speed sharpening) as you only need one stroke of the whetstone to restore sharpness
