You need to "play the fishing mechanics" perfectly for that one. I managed to catch him only once and was the most difficult thing in the entire game. You could equipt the "nature" decoration that is meant to buff the fishung durrability but its effect is not the pure solution.
I wish you luck!
The fish didnt even start going left or right to start the fishing mechanic minigame. It just swam away from me immediately and break the line. Thats whats weird. Thanks for the reply though.
That said I've never had them directly try to swim away from my hunter. Usually the favourite Gajau trick is swimming into a rock and getting stuck.
Just press the right bumper (or whatever button reels in your line) after the fish bites.
You have about a 1 sec window to do this as its swimming directly away, if you hit it you start the minigame as normal.
No idea why this is more of a thing with gauju than other whoppers tho.
Anyway, the 'swimming away' thing is just something larger fish do just like how they can also swim left/right. It can occur at any time, but seems to most often occur when you first hook the fish. Some types of fish seem to do it more than others, too.
The first time this happens the game gives you a brief summary of how you're supposed to deal with it, but since you've just hooked your first large fish most people will not be able to read it since they are focused on trying to catch the thing...
Anyway, it is something about pushing up (as it 'jumps' out of the water, I think) and another button that I'm not even sure of. Otherwise I don't think you're supposed to be pressing anything. Pressing controls that you're not supposed to press will increase line stress and make the line break.
TBH I'm not sure what you're supposed to do exactly, since I play with M&KB and the control hints simply just don't make much sense with M&KB sometimes. Not only that but the hints for this event are ambiguous and don't really help much anyway.
I usually just let go of controls altogether and then only push 'up' the moment it jumps and hope I don't lose the fish. I still lose it maybe about half of the time when it does this, but half of the time is better than all of the time.
I think if you go into the Tutorial/Explanation area of the pause menu you should be able to find the exact controls-hint that pops up, but like I said, it's a little confusing and doesn't help that much. It's better than nothing, though.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Hey you are right, I tried it and it worked. I have to tap R2 right after it bites to get the fishing minigame going. Thank you!
