Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

There is one problem in terms of the initial feeling, when fighting new monsters.
Something important is missing now and I think part of the reason is, that every new monster got spoiled before the update. And even the base monster pool was almost completely revealed before the launch of the game.
We still have amazing cutscenes, we still have a fully voiced story, the maps are bigger, the monsters are arguably even cooler than in World, additionally we have more monster types now (skeletons) and the gameplay is overall amazing, when I ignore the fact that it isn't ACTUALLY, since I'm only having 45 fps average in 720p with stronger than RECOMMENDED hardware. So what is missing? To me it is the immersive experience I had in world, when it comes to exploration of the new unknown world, it's ecosystem and learning about the creatures.
I simply wish, Capcom would stop revealing every new monster and instead try to make more "interesting" mysterious appearances, that manage to surprise us more. Also while I not necessarily need to collect footprints for every new monster, for like 20 minutes, it just feels off to immediately see the new monster, while having the npc's scream "A MIZUTSUNE!" as if it's completely normal there, seen like multiple times by now, while knowing everything about the species already. The whole exploration and data collecting part is almost completely missing in Wilds and it is a shame, giving how much is actually going on on the maps. I really hope we get some more real explorations and scientific stuff, instead of zooming over the entire map and killing monsters in no time.

God you have no idea how hard I feel this. I had to work overtime for two years to make sure I got spoiled on as little as possible, which, while mostly successful, still had a few things that I wish I could've experienced myself (rey dau, gypceros and congalala were the big 3)

Lemme tell you, I lost my ♥♥♥♥ when I saw the frenzy come back, and being able to experience all the other Apexes blind was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incredible. The fact that most people who followed the build up to release never got to experience that is a damn shame.

edit: I also got the wonderful experience of playing it with friends and partners through the entire first play through, so we experienced everything for the first time together and that made everything so much more special

Ah yes, starting Monster Hunter with friends and playing through the whole game together is the best experience, although i like fighting monsters for the first time solo too. But being in the Discord with like 7 friends, everyone plays the new MH for the first time... Damn nothing beats it.
Meanwhile I can't stop laughing that my voice acquires helium for one specific cutscene involving the giant Doshagama invading the village.

I had no idea about any monsters in the game, including the returning ones, and I still don't know any deets on anything after Nerscylla (beyond glimpses I've caught on the wiki). I even was on the World discord chat for the months leading up to the launch and I barely got anything about the Wilds roster.

If you don't want to get spoiled all you have to do is just opt out of the hype content and I can guarantee you, you'll be fine. This is 100% on you.

(this being said, Wilds has, hands down, the absolute worst monster design I have ever seen in the series, and every new monster past chatacabra looks like an abstract shape they gave up on designing halfway through, so honestly all I've been doing is just delaying the disappointment)

Im interested now, what game has your favourite monster deign?

edit: as someone who blocked literally everything, if I watch once piece of mh content, dos, FU, anything, I would get a billion spoilers on the game, it's unreasonably difficult to do, I was getting ♥♥♥♥ from Japanese twitter accounts after I blocked every words lmao

I agree that a bit of investigating is missing. Instead of all those story bs, i would have prefer an investigating story. Not necessary a gameplay thing. Just a thing that would give us some weakness of the monster and its element (instead of just showing the monster without any infos, always felt weird, even though usually the previous monster give you what you need for the next in a pretty linear way).

Would have give a sense of hunting, without adding a painful gameplay since it would have only been on main quests not on optional/event.

Also it feel so wrong when 'Investigate for research" but we seems to already know everything about the monster from the Guild encyclopedia, but i don't seem to have access to that info before the actual fight.
Gameplay wise it makes sense i guess, but story wise and on coherence, it doesn't.

Personally, I like World the most because I'm a basic ♥♥♥♥♥ that likes his monster designs to be saurioid, but also because the movesets and animations look much better than in any previous games.

I do have a soft spot for both Rise and 3U though, Aknosom is a super fun design that was kinda wasted, and both Ludroth and Lagiacrus worked really well with 3's underwater combat (also it's the game that brought us Barroth, Uragaan and Deviljho)

World just has generally pretty solid design, and given it's ecology focus, it's really able to make everything shine despite the obvious skeleton limitations. The entire ancient forest cast is just kinda perfect.

For me, 3u probably had my favourite new monster design, generally pretty hard to beat anything that has Lagi and Caudues. That is, until wilds. Without spoiling anything, this is by far my favourite roster in the series, just the way it's handled and the ecological focus turned up to 11 just makes me fall so deeply in love with it, there's also just a bunch of little things about all the designs that just enraptures me entirely!

Fair, I haven't gotten that far, but so far my experience with the Wilds monster has been disappointing to say the least. Designs look like just... shapes (Rompopolo legitimately looks like its textures aren't loading correctly lol) and moveset wise they seem to just stand in place most of the time. Hell, Rey Dau just looks like "we have Astalos at home".

Guess I'll see the rest of it in about couple years when I buy a new GPU lol

Yeah, from first glance they don't look like anything that interesting, they first time I saw Rey Dau in a screenshot I was pretty disappointed because it just... looked like rathian. But when you're able to experience them and see the ways they work, while it might not hit for you as a design entirely, it does make you go "oh, I see what they're doing here, those sly dogs", they're extremely thoughtful designs at the very least.

Regardless, I hope it's something you'll at least be able to enjoy whenever you get ahold of it :D
