Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

Rathian and Rathalos
It seems for Wilds these two along with their guardian variants and possible future sub species no longer have breakable backs and heads. I guess it makes some sense since especially with the new wound mechanic drowning hunters in material drops, but in older games it was much harder to get these rare materials like plates and rubies and breaking those parts, capturing, and carving tails were the only ways of getting the best drop chances. Where some people also confused/surprised when they couldn't break a Rath's head?

I hate both of these monster with a heated passion and am sick and tired of them being the face of the game.

They aren't that bad imo even with the fire and poison what weapon do you use? As for them being the mascot of the franchise that's kinda of weird take, its like saying Pikachu shouldn't be the mascot for Pokemon

Rathian is okay, but Rathalos should have kept flying out of the game.

Honestly they're kinda dull.
Like the sort of player who has Rathalos as their favourite monster is the sort of player who uses default Character Creator options and just clicks "continue" without modifying anything. The sort of player whose character name is "Player 1"... i.e. unbelievably mundane. The sort of human whose favourite sandwich is just a slice of bread.

I mean I guess maybe they're a little more nuanced than they used to be... but that is largely due to generations of forced moveset assimilation and redivision where other monsters would only assimilate. i.e. Rathalos, Azure Rathalos and Silver Rathalos get separate movesets.... but in the next game Rathalos gains half of AzRath and SilRath's moves.... but because they don't simply discontinue Azure Rathalos nor Silver Rathalos (like they did with Green Nargacuga or Ivory Lagiacrus.... or Soulseer Mizutsune), they have to give those two new moves every time they come back.... JUST so Rathalos can steal them again in the next game.

It has been replaced with wounds and focus targeting mechanics, as far as I can tell.

We cannot trip them the same way either.

I used to "build up" trip damage and then hit their feet when i needed to "stun lock" them.

I would use the same trick to knock silver rathalos out of the sky... you learn about how many hits a wing would take to break, then hold off until it swooped and get that last wing hit to drop their ass out of the sky.

Things have changed with this new mechanic... that will be ignored in the next game.
