Problem it's that they are scared of jumping in the pool, otherwise in World Fatalis would have been a 12-man raid, I mean, he is called FATALIS because every time it appears only calamity follows... And you send only 4 hunters to deal with it? xD
With Wilds they have a golden oportunity again to do something like that, break the mold completely and give a experience never seen before in the series, but again, they need to lose the fear of jumping xD
Is it worth trying though? I mean, you get the "i liked underwater combat" people every now and then, but does the general population like it?
A lot of monsters in MH benefit from being able to fight underwater. An example is Royal Ludroth, in 3U it was a lot quicker n craftier when fighting underwater. On land it was a lot slower n squishier. Similarly, in 3U, Lagiacrus was a massive threat when underwater, and you'd rush to try and get it to leave the water as it was a lot easier to work with it when it was on land.
It'll be interesting seeing how they work with Lagiacrus in Wilds. It would be nice if they added even a small underwater area just for the sake of adding extra challenge to swimming monsters. Would also give them the opportunity to reintroduce monsters like Gobul (This is me begging Capcom to bring back Gobul).
I hate underwater stuff, but MH did it well. I quite enjoyed it in 3U.
IMO, the main problem with underwater combat was the controls and they can be improved, but like was said somewhere, folks at capcom are very scared of trying to advert too much from the formula and irate their fans.
At least until the series is doing well. If it eventually start to wither and die due to lack of inovation, then maybe we could see it back.
We need a new weapon actually, 2 gens and 4 games without a new 1 is crazy
Why? Because it would require a total conversion of the entire combat system AND all weapons. It would be a similar amount of work to making another MH's worth of systems.
Given the amount of development work required to implement something like this, why would they just shadow drop it out of nowhere? And no, it won't come in the Wilds expansion either. Due to the reasons I listed above such a LARGE addition to the game is beyond the scope of a traditional MH expansion.
As I said in the last thread someone made about this the best chance for Underwater Combat to come back and be good would be for MH to ditch landbased combat entirely for one game. Go ALL in on it and build the entire game and all weapons around it.
Building one combat system is hard enough. Building two of them is a great way to make sure one of them ends up being undercooked. Hence my suggestion of doing one OR the other.
