Small monsters attacking Big monster
Silliest stuff. I know they tried to just put as many crutches as they could, but how does this make any sense?
Going for Big Monster without chance of winning instead helping him fighting Monster Hunter. Was it all just for free damage and "sneak attack"? Such a bad nonsensical change
For newfriends - in previous games Small mons always ganged up on you along with Big mons.

Yeah, and it was completely nonsensical. Small predators would single out the hunters in the middle of a hunt against a far bigger thread and run into harm's way JUST to spite you...

Now they do the opposite. They STILL run into the middle of fights to attack the big monster... even when they're caught in the crossfire and killed just for getting in the way.

It is insane either way. Small monsters have no self-preservation.
Small monster behaviour has never made much sense in MH. It makes sense for pack animals to help out their leader, like 'Preys and 'Dromes in gen 1 or 2, or the Jagras in MH:World. It doesn't make sense for something like a Kranodanth to jumping-headbutt you when you're trying to dodge Udra's flamethrower attack; if anything those ugly malformed bastards should be running as far away as possible from the fiery octopus that attacks anything indiscriminately.

some make sense, certain small monsters can paralyse or stun and run away afterwards

They and the rest of the herd/pack will sometimes do a unique taunting/celebration animation when they successfully knock out or paralyze a large monster if the player is not part of the aggro circle.
Do you even know nature?

Multiple small units attacking a bigger one isn't weird. And within the MH context, I remember hunting big monsters like tempered Zinogre, KO'd him and watching a lot of jagras swarming to attack Zinogre while he's helpless. Makes sense, it's a normal behavior in nature itself.

This was a regular occurrence pre 5th Gen.

Sure... small creatures gang up on larger ones if their young are in danger... or if they're specifically adapted to take down things bigger than themselves... or if they're mustelids...
BUT generally speaking they're looking for an out, and they're not going to stick around if it becomes a 3-way... let alone continuing mindlessly if they're getting massacred... unless they're mustelids.
Just don't get me started on mustelids. A Honey Badger would totally pick a fight with Fatalis and probably survive.

Honey badgers are dope, I want to see one fighting Rajang.

Flagship Monster for Master Rank: Honey Badger.
Takes 1% damage from all sources, is immune to all status ailments, and gets angrier every time you hit it. Plus if you try to escape it will chase you all the way back to Main Camp and wreck the place.

the silliest part for me is large monsters retaliating against small monsters counts as you slaying those small monsters if they get killed for the current running dailies at least.

Source: So a pack of the monsters I needed to slay for yesterday's dailies, Kranodath, decided to go monsto-to-monsto against a Rathalos...who roared at me who was outside the area just watching, as if it was my fault they decided to go toe-to-toe with the King of the Skies.

long story short it didn't go well for them. Hammer heads apparently don't win against fireballs, and in the process Rathalos completed that particular daily for me...
