I tried that, but it didn’t change anything.
The weird thing is, it only happens with this game.
With you adjusting the settings so much, did you make sure to delete the shader cache every time?
1. The game is MASSIVELY CPU-bound, while your 5700X is pretty decent, 7000 and 9000 series or any X3D CPU are much faster in this game.
2. Game optimization is nill.
3. 7800XT, despite all its power is still chiplet based and those are prone to FPS dips, because of internal data trasfers. Games are supposed to program around that but in MH WIlds' case - hahaha. There is a reason AMD moved back to monolithic GPUs with the 9070XT.
That said, there are ways to make sure you get a little better performance :
1. Delete you cache files in the game's directory - there are several, might be 1-4. Anything with cache in its name. When you next start the game it will rebuild them and improve performance. After the last patch recently I went in and noticed nice <30FPS dips constantly, even some <25FPS slideshows. Rebuilding the cache fixed those. The game is supposed to force a cache rebuild after each update but fails miserably almost every time. So we have to do that ourselves....
2. Don't use the High Resolution Texture pack, it causes stutters, no matter what. Set the game textures to High and forget about it. High is pretty much 95% the same anyway.
3. Make sure your AMD chipset driver for your motherboard is updated. Find the correct one for your MB chipset - B550/b450/etc ? A lot of peeps forget those exist. Google it, it should be on AMD's site.
These are not just for show, they do improve performance a little bit. If you haven't installed it manually, Windows installes *some* version of it, but it is usually old - they just want your machine to work, they don't care how fast it is.
4. Check your BIOS for the FCLK speed, it should be exactly 1/2 of your RAM speed. If you are running 3200MHz RAM, set it to 1600, etc. Zen3 (such as you 5700X) needs this as it's internal data trasfer rates are tied to that. Zen4 and above have it decoupled so it's not that big of a deal anymore, but you can get as much as 10% more performance of your CPU that way.
While you are there, make sure you are using your RAM XMP/DOHCP profile - a lot people forget about enabling that. Running your RAM at 2133MHz will severely gimp your CPU.
Usually on 1080p (widescreen, so 2560x1080p), I never drop below 55-60 FPS. Average is 70-80FPS. You should be seeing much better performance that what you are getting. It's probably the shader cache (#1) but the other 3 point won't hurt to check. I play at 3440x1440p and getting anywhere from 50-70 FPS usually, some dips <50. That is native, no frame generation enabled.
Thanks, I’ll give those tips a try.
But what’s really got me puzzled is my friend with the 4070 and a 5600 getting around 60–70 FPS.
He was having performance issues too, but things improved just with NVIDIA driver updates.
I haven’t seen it myself, but according to him, he’s now able to run the game at an average of 70 FPS on max settings, no Frame Generation, at 1080p.
With a 4070, on max settings, he is either not 70fps stable or using at least DLSS to boost the performance. Ask him how many FPS does he have in the Forest during downpour or in the desert with a sandstorm. He might have accidentally "missed" those.
His drivers can only improve performance as the latest Nvidia ones were absolute trash. Anything is better than that. Good for him.
You should be getting similar performance and even slightly better with a 7800XT. It's probably the shader cache that is doing this.
So I'd say your CPU is simply not cutting it, you can install even the best GPU but it won't help unless you upgrade all hardware systematically
I would hope not, otherwise Wilds has even more serious performance issues than I imagined.
(Smart Access Memory).
Some 3000 series could do it if the Mobo was able to, but was mainly introduced with PS5 and Ryzen 5000 series +. Games do make use of this.
ps : both cpu and gpu are undervolted, my rx 6700xt barely hit 100watt on full load
At 1080p, I can’t get anywhere near that in the forest—nowhere close to stable either. Sometimes it hits 80, sometimes it drops to 38.
That’s at 2560x1080 or 1920x1080, and performance doesn’t seem to change much between the two.
