It's in the title, you hunt monsters, make hats out of them, using either a comically large sword or a hammer to oonga boonga your way to that monster's deathbed. What's not to like? My only gripe is that it holds your hand too much, but it happens for modern versions of any game series.

Plus the monster designs are so cool.
You hunt big ass monsters to make better gear/weapons so you hunt even bigger ass monsters. If that doesn't appeal to you then I wouldn't buy the game :praisesun:

I'd say the monster hunting is the main appeal
I think a very big thing that draws me to the series is it's passion, even the things I don't like about the series, I can't help but feel charmed by it

The monsters aren't just big boss fights, their living creatures, one the series tries to make you really care about, the way they eat, the way they sleep, they way they just live. They're creatures you learn and understand intimately, in a world so filled of life that simply grabs you.

It's a game that tries to get better, get bigger, to innovate even if it fails to do so, it's one that wants to be the best it can be with devs who so desperately want to meet the highest of expectations.

Those are the things that appeal to me the most, the immaculate gameplay is simply a bonus.

You slaughter monsters and wear their body parts.
You literally hunt monsters that are a threat to the ecosystem. You kill or capture them, get monster parts to make armor and weapons. Raise your hunter rank by hunting monster in order to do high level missions. You have 3 lives in each hunt. Die in game you'll lose your chance of getting good rewards.

They're different types of weapons you can use, but it all depends on your play style because the weapons you choose has to work with your play style in order to play the game properly. There is a training area where you can learn how to fight and learn combo moves of your weapon

When hunting monsters watch how the monsters fight so you can dodge and learn how they attack, which will make hunting easier. If you need to heal then keep your distance from the monsters and drink you potion. If your stamina is low eat rations or something. Always sharpen your weapon because the lower your weapons sharpness the lower your damage output will be.

Well, it's kind of in the name.

Practically it's a boss fighting simulator. You get 14 playstyles as different weapons, with their own movesets and quirks and then you go nuke 30 distinct bosses, almost each of those has different difficulty levels.

It's also not a very difficult game for now, which honestly is great because you can just enjoy yourself instead of popping a vein all the time. There are more difficult encounters, as you may see from the rage over the new fight, and almost every monster has more difficult level, but most are just quite enjoyable and chill fights.

The combat is why I would recommend this game to someone.

There are 10+ different weapon types with highly varied movesets and a bunch of very different boss monsters to fight.

Combat also has enough depth to it to make mastering each boss satisfying. Everything each boss does is well telegraphed so you'll learn how to "read" each monster and counter accordingly. Big nasty attack? Nah. That's actually a DPS window if you just stand in the right place.

The game also has buildcrafting to it as well. Most armor and weapons offer a variety of situational passive bonuses. Higher rarity armor also comes with sockets. Allowing you to add skills of your choice.

If you're looking for a story driven experience with lots of dialogue and cutscenes you may wish to look elsewhere. That side of the game is pretty thin and forgettable.

If you enjoy games where you grind the same content over and over you will like MH. The modern iterations mix a little bit of live service in with the ARPG and coop game play. It normally takes a bit to get used to the combat, but if it clicks with you it can be very addicting.

It's a boss rush game where you get weapons and armor from monster materials to hunt more powerful monsters.
