So we're back to Iceborne 100-0 wombo combos
Really Capcom? Zoh Shia has so many wombo combo moves that will totally 100-0 my HP bar. Animations for the hunter are so incredibly slow that by the time you get up, Zoh Shia has already locked on another smash/fireball/aoe/lightning to hit before you can move.

Even if you can move it's not fast enough to actually get out of the way. The fight is absolutely garbage with low mobility (cant do it with G Lance, but it's alright with IG/LS).
The potential to get combo'd into a cart from a single mistake/hit is ridiculous. Getting real start of Iceborne flashbacks here where everything could 100-0 you no problem.

Either chill with the building sized monsters being able to move and combo faster than we can or give us animation speed that's faster than my crippled grandma going up the staircase.

I like the monster, I like the fight in general. But if you get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ attack pattern it's 100-0 the moment you're hit most of the time. Or his run across the arena where being hit once results in getting stunlocked, because by the time your hunter gets up Zoh Shia is already ready to hit you again.

Good, that's what we needed. Make you think about what you're doing instead of hacking away without any thought. Also, the hunter being incredibly slow? Nah, this and Rise is the fastest hunters have been.
Skill Issue

Git gud

Between the downed invulnerability and dive-evade you have all the tools you need to survive even the longest combo. Not to mention that you are supposed to avoid getting hit to begin with

I'm expecting 100-0 in AT (maybe Temp depending on monster), not a normal encounter. No reason to give a normal monster a moveset with multiple 100-0 attack strings, perfectly timed to hit/target you the moment your recovery animation finishes so dodging isn't even possible.
Any guesses as to when some people will learn to stay on the floor when they take a big hit instead of just standing into the follow-up? And yes, i am including the giga fireballs from hell that are timed juuuust well enough to be almost a one-two hit.

I've been running Zoh with GS w/o quick sheathe and not once gotten combo'd, only hit when being a greedy ♥♥♥♥♥ for that sweet sweet TCS. So i'm not gonna be the one to say it but i think you know the words for your post, sorry about it :/
this is literally a skill issue

Then learn.

I've learned that after ONE charged blast, he does a second one.
Take that hit if possible and then STAY DOWN.

You can't expect the majority of the community to do no-hit runs. I'm with that stuff in endgame hunts when you're doing the special variant like AT. A normal monster encounter shouldn't have this many straight to cart combos.

Thats LITERALLY what the devs said to do: take a step back, find the issue you're having and LEARN TO TACKLE THE PROBLEM.
I spent 21min on my first hunt to figure him out and then the others with my brother while we were taking him on
sometimes its better to not stand up asap ;) 20 year old mh trick lol

there is your issue Zoa Shia isnt a "normal" encounter its a high level monster that was made to fight Elder Dragons and is a buff variant of the end game boss its meant to be hard

i have i think 14-15 clears by now with 4 being solo (3 of which i did with 0 carts) if you have fire resist and even a decent set of armor you can tank 2-3 hits in a row and then call your seikret and heal on the move if your still taking that much damage maybe look at your armor skills and pick up evade extender (and the other one i forget the name of) that gives you longer dodges with more I-Frames and then start up fire resist and then invest some armor spheres

another thing that might help is if you get armor and attack charm and equip them to your loadout if you havent already then farm some armor skin potions

OK
So what most people are saying here seems mostly correct, they are missing something - as I think you may have.

The TWO absolute best way to prevent getting wombo'd are
#1 learn the tell for the nuke and
  • call the Seikret and run away (also, you're invulnerable on it for about 20s)
  • run. just run.

or
#2 Learn to negate the damage:
...and this is where I think your problem is. We've all been running around in whatever gear because the monsters were pretty darned easy up until now....
  • This list is specific to this boss and nothign here is mandatory; but this will give you all the strats I know for dealing with him.
  • make sure you've eaten to get ;your health over 100.
  • while you're there, look at the extras and think about taking defensive/immunizer meals.
  • Make sure you have a MINIMUM of 20 elemental defense - this prevents fireblight and reduces all his nova damage - I THINK that at Fire Resist 25 he's doing around 40% less damage.
[8]Make sure you have high rank armour and preferrably with armour upgrades. each piece may have a base of around 65ish andwith upgrades it goes to 75ish - giving you a 15% damage reduction.
  • [consider running defense up and iron will. Defense Up 5 grants 35% damage reduction, and iron will prevents him from setting you up for a nuke (the orange lightning removes all your defense if it hits you, making you one-shot from anything)
  • mega armourskin(does not stack wtih armourskin)+Adamant Pill (does not stack with seed) + hardshell powder gives another 20% or so defense.
  • Heroics 4 gives +100 defense. Your base defense is around 280, with armourshards infused it's about 320, and heroics + all the above buffs puts you at around 650 defense.

This effectively gives you around 250% health. Now you'll only vulnerable to a full nova if you just stand there like a dolt. With all this on, you can survive his mini-nova, too.

Oh, and if you run something with a heavy shield - I played with bowgun for a bit - you can straight up tank his novas, his run, and his mininuke just by holding block.

I made a pure damage build that slots all that in, BTW. I was thinking I'd make a YT video on it as i'm basically unkillable.

The only thing is that Frenzy seems to ignore my ironwill at the moment so I'm experimenting with that trying to figure out what's going on there - it might be intentional, and it might be bugged.

So counter intuitive lol, especially since I've just been playing souls-likes lately. I'm all in for parry and last moment dodges, not the slow ass stuff for this monster and getting staggered into oblivion with an unfortunate chain of events.

Yea the nova wasn't an issue, pretty used to that from back in World and the Seikret is such a god sent at times. It's annoying attack patterns Zoh Shia can do that just (almost) guarantee a cart even with full HP after eating a meal etc. I still don't like how slow the fight goes, I currently need 20-25 mins for a solo. But the combat is just so slow compared to what I usually like to play.

so how about you learn your blocks and last moment dodges properly and dont get fully hit from the first hit in the chain :) dont stand up is only needed if you fked up already
