Bowgun feels bad
Now let me point out I'm not talking about special abilities though they were a cool addition, but my main concern is with how the ammo works in this MH. I am not a fan of it and it feels completely off. I can't quite explain it, but it feels completely different than any other MH game I've played and I've played a lot, picking up bowgun light/heavy more than once. I wan'ted to start using Bowgun again as I don't want to use the bow and I can't even use it, because it feels just so bad. Anyways what are your thoughts on it.

Its way more streamlined than before, and the option to have a second gun is fantastic. Not needing 20 different ammo types (alert: obvious exaggeration) is a plus for me, and I like that the increased utiltiy of normal ammo types makes the guns more approachable without needing to craft every gun to target swap for fights.

It definitely feels more like a tanky ballista or a mobile gunner atm, I like them both for different reasons. They play nicely, as well.

I like how focus mode makes them feel more like a shooter game than the old system used to be.

I agree. Bowgun used to be way more engaging. It feels gutted.

happy to see bowgun not dealing double the damage of the next best damage weapon, but it didnt deserve the terribad changes oit got to how it feels.

Less usable ammo type less fun, at least for me, its just spam shoot Pierce and Wyvern Heart and call it a hunt, even mounted gunning was nerf to oblivion, might as well disable it, so far Wilds HBG is by far the worst, Tri was interesting to say the least, GU HBG was peak, WORLD/ICEBRORNE was okay ish, minus the Special Scope, RISE/SUNBREAK was good enough. Wilds is just World but worst and after TU1, slighty worst. Gunning never felt good after GU, that's just my opinion. Just give me back Seige Mode Capcom and Build your own Bowgun from Tri.

You just need to try engaging with the new system more. Use two, different, guns. Dont just default to normal/pierce and wyvern heart becuase its optimal. Optimal doesnt care how you like to play, anyways, so do ♥♥♥♥ like double up slicing ammo guns and go nuts.

Having tried LBG's. I can say that pierce/pierce elem is king. All other ammo just isn't as good. Support bowgun still works with conga for para and gravios for sleep. Just stickies dont feel as good but this game already has so much CC due to focus strike. I guess thats why they didn't wanna make stickies as good as world/rise. Spread on the other hand is EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH? I used it on some monsters. Its high skill cap low reward ill say. *Forgot to add, special ammo for LBG is just a dmg loss and clunky to use compared to world/rise.

HBG's played less but knowing they nerfed the mounting playingstyle kinda sucks. From 10% dmg reduction to 60%....

TLDR they gutted most of the ammo. Anything beyond pierce/pierce elem, status, normals are pretty bad and clunky to use due to the recoil.

It was never the best way to play. It SHOULD have been ammo restricted, so you can still do stuff like offset recoil for spread and slicing ect.

That said, just use the chocobo to get mounts going or gtfo of dodge.

I do that often, I like using Slicing and having support ammo such as Para and Sleep, I have a build for Sleep bombing, Normal 3, Sticky and Cluster, I was very fond of Spread while Mounting but that got gutted, now I'm left with Sleep Bombing Monster and I build a not so optimal set for Foray just to mess around. Come to think of it, if the buff Wyvernblast Ignition, would be awesome..

I am not saying mounting is the best way to play although I think it was. I think its just a unique concept and something fun to try. The devs just didn't like the vision in terms of balance.

I do like your concept of it being ammo restricted.

Yeah, big ranged damage on a super mobile mount is a tad busted in terms of the intended gameplay. It kind of trivialized combat. I do remember looking forward to it since the trailer dropped, but I never ended up using HBG like that. Didnt feel a strong need to once I got into the game.
I'm glad they nerfed mount-gunning, because it got rid of all the HBG tourists. It was never good to begin with.

Mount gunning was a reddit meme, it was never good, or a serious way of playing. Serious HBG players didn't use it outside of memes.

I know, but for a new player you get all the benefit of a ranged dps, and completely mitigate its weakness to physical damage by having more mobility than all but IGs.

Its not the best output, but its certainly damned easy. And enough people were doing it that a few people complained about it on the forums

It is really fun to melt Gravios in a minute with water HBG, which wasn't nerfed and still possible, but besides that yeah, feels bad, feels way worse than melee fights
I wonder what yall are doing that its so bad. Are you solo and not actively guarding? Is it not using opening shot or something?
