Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

Game crashes every 10 minutes on new update, please help
I've played this game for nearly 100 hours already with occasional crashes. But now with the most recent update the game crashes every 10 minutes or so. Even when just left on the home screen.

I've updated drivers, cleaned old drivers, enabled admin, deleted and recompiled shaders many times, verified integrity of files.

I do not have any mods installed.

Windows 10
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X
32 GB Ram
Nvidia RTX 2080 TI
Installed on 2TB Crucial 4x4 SSD

If anybody can help fix this I would be so grateful.

So still crashing solo - also using Farcaster before the big bang did not help?

Hm...

I would try this

WIN+R

Enter "regedit"

Go to

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

New > DWORD (32-bit) Value

Value Name TdrLevel
Value Data 10 decimal

Restart PC

That prolongs the time in which the graphics card might remain unresponsive before it gives up on a process. If there is no difference between offline and online, it might be no network error to begin with.

The only last thing I can think of is that it is the CPU, but it is an AMD, and AMD are always like that... Try running the game with core zero affinity disabled. I have no idea if that works, but at this point it is just trying to figure out if any can work.

At this point I also recommend sending your findings to Capcom support via email support@capcom.com with your DxDiag attached. Maybe the tech department can figure something out - provided enough people consult them with enough information.

I never get to his big bang, the crash is always very early into the fight, probably 1-3 minutes of first attacking him and I'm pretty sure it's even crashed at least once before I could jump off the Seirket to start attacking lol.

No luck with the registry entry either or Core 0 affinity unchecked. I guess I'll have to send off an email to capcom support in the end.

Very unfortunate. I think it has something to do with the crystals, but I cannot think of an option or setting which would address that. Only depth of field, but that seems a tad farfetched.
Wait until the game is in a playable state and don't lose your time doing stupid fixes and placebos.

I think I had this issue once, it was when I had some updates pending.

I do agree that you should try running Zoh Shia in offline mode first for pure troubleshoot purpose. Any Steam connection problem normally will just split player into separate session to continue the fight but doesn't ended the hunt nor CTD the game.

Don't give up!

-----------

Would you like to take my random suggestion in the mean time? This is sync and driver related, doesn't hurt or take much time.

Try setting all of this in one go, no need to lower your other graphic setting (if you can go high with no non-stop stutter, just go high) Don't do low setting. We wants to fix CTD, Skimming down other detailed graphic setting is not your fixed goal. So feels free to increase your Vram usage setting.

- running the game in full hd 1920*1080 in window mode (NON- borderless)
- Must V-sync OFF
- cap your fps at 60 first, then 30 later (check which one can go longer or same result)
- last thing. turn OFF all buildins "Sync technology" on your monitor.

Any improvement or result report should help other people with similar setting.

If it is not CTD on usual hunt anymore, should worth to downgrade your GPU driver to between 566.36(preferred) but less than nor equal to 572.16. Then reactivate other stuff that you disable and tune on resolution&stuff. :MHRISE_OK:

Add edit : don't forget to rebuild your shader cache after driver installation.

I've made multiple attempts with these settings and changes. My fights with Zoh Shia were solo to begin with but I did go offline mode and tried anyways, no luck.

Running windowed at the res you mentioned, 60 fps was already set capped in game but I tried 30 as well. Wasn't sure the exact settings in Nvidia Control Panel for the Sync stuff but I disabled what I figured you meant. Still crashed.

Downgraded the GPU drivers with DDU in safemode to 566.36 and still crashes.

It's strange too because these crashes are different than the other ones I was getting. Crash Logger never activates and windows doesn't detect the crash in the Event Viewer so they don't even show up in DxDiag like the other ones. It also happened once during a Rey Dau fight when he did the big lightning explosion shot.

Thanks for the response
To disable free sync on your monitor is by doing like this

These should have similar step for you to follow. Operate by push your monitor side button which trigger the on screen display option. Search for FreeSync/G-sync and turn it OFF.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpLXfqd3G48

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD%20Monitors/VG32VQ/ASUS_VG32VQ_English.pdf

It is an elimination process.
I would suggest you to keep disable the free sync on your monitor in the meantime, while troubleshooting other stuff so that's it would not cause any "free sync, g-sync" and driver crash related which can produce crash and instability in some system. Good luck!

If the option it was greyed out, check the support cable you're currently using on your monitor, consider use a newer one for better bandwidth&support.
Note : do not use "Flea market" cable grade. As it is potential harmful to both your monitor and GPU.

Check the "Key Features And Differences" for more info

If you have any flicker related, consider check this article too. Doesn't matter what is your current Panel type. It is a good to know stuff to prevent a future of bad buying stuff.

I have an update in regards to this, after turning off the G-Sync setting on the monitor it seemed to improve the game stability enough that I went through Zoh Shia's fight quite a lot longer (second attempt crashed a bit sooner than the first). It still crashes though. I'm at least assuming that it was due to that change.

Also I fired off an email to Capcom earlier about the issue, maybe something will come of it.

Very interesting. I am curious about the relation to G-Sync. I am using always V-Sync and it only improves my graphics - or rather, it is impossible to play without it due to screentearing. That it helped you puzzles me.

dont need to split your head over it when the simple explaination is that this game is trashly put together with a duct tape. RE engine is also very bad idk why they picked that one for mh when even to this day dragon dogma 2 still has performance issue.

Out of place comment,
OP's processor is from 2017.
Frame of reference that is 8 year old CPU, looked it up before commenting.

Could it be that the game makes use of archetexture that is not possible for CPU to run?
YES.
Does Capcom have to make it work on his CPU?
No, in fact his CPU is well under the suggested spec so Capcom doesnt have to lift a finger, it is entirely on him to solve his problem.
On store page.
ntel® Core™ i5-10400 or Intel® Core™ i3-12100 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600

OP's processor is from the year before.
Technically he could possibly solve the problem putting in a ~5000 series processor.

Honestly hard to tell at this point, I made two more attempts just now and the third crashed near the beginning of the fight again like before, and fourth I made it further but no big bangs yet before the game died. Thinking it's just a fluke.

I don't know how I got so far in the first attempt, even past two big bangs with no issue.

That's some ancient hardware. I'd recommend reverting drivers then deleting cache files, and lastly reinstalling windows and using atlasOS.

It seemed like I had fixed it at first after updating my AMD chipset drivers but if anything it just prolongs the inevitable.

Just had this crash mid-hunt as the monster was changing zones and I hopped on my Seirket.

DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/UJc783cQ

Same like above - that is unfortunately not the full DxDiag report I need. But it already shows you having memory leak issues, and faulty Windows components which needs to be checked / reinstalled.

It already affected your Windows Explorer and Girl's Frontline Exilium as well.

Use the tips here #1 + #2 + #4 + #7 + #19

Make sure that your C: drive has at least 180 GB free space and that you use tip#1 in safe mode as described. Your Nvidia driver did already encountered permission issues before and we need to make sure that the driver is cleanly reinstalled before you can continue.

Once you are done, use the installers in this package
https://www.nexusmods.com/helldivers2/mods/93

Run then terminal as administrator and use these commands

sfc /scannow
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /AnalyzeComponentStore
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
chkdsk /f /r

If the issue persists afterwards, try running your Nvidia GPU in debug mode and see if that helps

Good luck! :MHRISE_OK:

I will say that trying this appears to have worked. Now don't quote me to the highest level on it as it's only been about 2 hours since I've tried it, but this is the longest two hours straight that I've been able to play the game so far without crashes. Normally it crashes when doing practically anything from opening the game, looking at equipment, to just eating a meal. It's been real smooth since I cleaned up the windows cache or whatever these steps do

*Edit: I didn't use the Nexus installer stuff, just the windows terminal steps. Adding this as it's an evidence point, and I've had crashing issues *since launch*

Most players have indeed a very common Windows issue, leading to chain reactions wheras console ports like Monster Hunter Wilds is super sensitive with. Always has been with Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise as well.

It is great if it works for you without the installers :MHRISE_OK:
I still like to recommend them since often faulty Windows components means it can be hard to restore them without fresh files.

Hey man,

I’ve had this issue with the 1800x and tried everything!! I ended up upgrading the cpu to a Ryzan 7 3700x and it fixed my problem. I took the crash report and ChatGPT it and it said something about the cpu no being able to execute an order from the game using a gen1 cpu. So upgrading it fixed my issue. I hope this helps!!
