Game won’t even start on Steam Deck after TU1
Got the update done, tried to start the game and it goes into a screen and finally crashes.

Reinstalled the game entirely, now getting a “Anti Tamper error 88500006” - saying “You can no longer authenticate on new devices, currently your game purchase cannot be re-validated successfully, please wait 24 hours and try again”

I run zero mods on my deck and have been playing the game since release (with much pain), now this completely breaks it 😓

*UPDATE*
Waited 24 hrs and the Denuvo error is gone. Back to the black screen before the game crashes. Followed Deck Wizard’s video on the fix from YouTube to get the previous version of Direct3D DirectStorage and the game loads back in.

why are you even attempting to play it on steam deck?
i saw this video and you may try this

I mean, it sucks. But game is not advertised as being steam deck compatible as far as I can tell. So...tough luck?

Thank you

Tried this after the reinstall, that’s when I got the error message. Might be cause Steam OS sort of provisions a new “virtual computer with each install” (my guess)
Gotta wait 24 hrs to try again 😓

Did a verification of the installed files after trying the above as well - it said 2 files needed to be redownloaded. Which may be the exact 2 files replaced in the fix above.

Yeah, it’s not. But that’s all I got 😓 the deck’s been amazing so far for many AAA games. Let’s just say “MHW” is “built different” 😅

Yup, all I got. So making the most of it. Hope it isn’t like a permanent thing cause of Capcom clamping down on modders with extra aggressive anti-cheats
It won't start on desktop Linux, either. The video posted offers a fix, but honestly, I'm hesitant to download and install unknown files to my computer. My guess is Valve will release a fix in Proton in a few days.

Desktop Linux here. MHW has been runs mostly flawlessly before, until it ran into the same error, same error code, after installing TU1 update.

Apparently there are many previous mentions about this anti-temper on other games an it seems one of the "easier" options is to wait for 24 hours before even retrying because there is this limits 5 retries per day per games....

By "previous mentions", I mean this discussion thread: => https://steamcommunity.com/app/1693980/discussions/0/3770111056972026482/

I'm not directly convinced that'd simply work because I don't think I've tried to launch the games (after TU1) five times... but neither am I convinced to install random DLL files into the game folder..... so I'll just stop being a hunter for this weekend. :)

Yeah feels like some of us have to stop being hunters on the weekend 😅 it’s probably the most convenient time most of us have to enjoy the game.
Yep, after changing the direct storage files manually it did in fact work. But now I have to wait 24 hours, since Denuvo can't pick up my license. All that just cause Linux users had to manually fix it

The new Direct Storage they added does not play well with Linux, Steam Deck runs on Linux, Download the previous version of Direct Storage that the game used pre-TU1 and the game will run again.

Someone uploaded the old version to Nexus, but it's been advised to download it from a more trustworthy source in other posts yesterday.

It's really not as bad as people make it out to be... It's like the old Xbox 360 days. Plus there's a lot of tools you can use to boost your fps. The real question is...why AREN'T you playing on your steam deck? Sounds like a skill issue to me 🤷‍♂️

ReFramework + some other mods on Nexus make it super playable on the steam deck at around 40+ FPS and it looks good too!

I've played the game more on my steam deck than I have my PC, even though the PC can run it at ultra and over 60 FPS, the practicality of being able to play anywhere in a busy lifestyle is priceless so I always choose practicality over performance.

how good does it look though my very first impressions of the benchmarks/demos i saw online were pretty horrible like worst than psp games

Honestly it looks fine, with upscaling set to quality the image is decent, not blocky or terrible, sometimes textures take a moment to load when you first load into a new zone and you may notice slowdown in specific areas but not frameloss or input latency.

I'll take a look at which ReFramework mods i have installed that help the game run at an acceptable level and link if I can, i'll just boot up the deck and see if i have the tabs open still :)
