To Those Complaining About Zoh Shia Kill Times

Hate to break it to you, if it's taking you 20 or more minutes to kill him and you're wondering why, it isn't cause he has a massive health pool. It's because you either don't know his patterns, you have a gear issue, or hear me out, you have a skill issue. This was my 2nd attempt killing him and first one I ran solo, first time was with a single friend.

Mind you, I got slapped around like a ragdoll and wasn't very good at dealing with his patterns since I don't know them 100% yet. By no means am I a speedrunner or claiming that this is even a good time.

Everyone was complaining about how the game is easy, well, here's a monster you actually need to gear up for. Even with my VERY suboptimal play I killed him in under 20 minutes. If I played optimally and stopped getting hit so much, I could probably shave this time down to 14 minutes or a little faster. News flash, that's standard Elder Dragon hunt time for the AVERAGE MH player that's actually trying to have a somewhat decent build.

His health isn't bloated. You're just under prepared.

I think he is a great entrée and Im very much looking forward to AT Rey Dau afterward and hope he bite back even harder!
We even got Insurance + Moxie food, you can't really fail now.

Focus on the face, claws, and "wings" for the first 3/4 of the fight until he loses all armor. Then you can take the tail and stay roughly around his balls to prevent damage and keep dealing it out. I run hunting horn until he gets fast and unpredictable, then switch to sword and shield.

Hunting horn does decent damage to the back legs regardless. I'm assuming hammer does, too. Might just take more damage from impact.

I assume you're running Guard Up? I don't use Lance and I haven't tried my S&S on this hunt yet. I don't imagine his nuke is blockable at all but again, haven't ran a shield weapon against this guy yet.

Either that or you're getting hit in the back cause hitboxes for some of the attacks are huge.

Its mainly the attack where he shoots flames straight down at you. Even with a perfect guard it still does its full damage and knocks you back. My first attempt at him he just kept spamming it and id die extremely quick.

Also yeah i have guard up.

I'll have to give him a shot with my S&S and see how for myself then.

Ofc, lemme know how it goes. Unsure how s&s's block system works, but id imagine itll be similar to the lance against him.

My first Zoh Shia kill took me around 25 mins... but i expected a long fight since i play Hunting Horn solo. i'm sure my future hunts will get a little faster. I don't think the fight is hard, just a bit of a slog with some of his big hitbox attacks and hp pool.
Jin Dahaad is still the worst fight imo

Update: Just killed him in 12:18 with one buddy, my 3rd fight, his 2nd.

My first hunt with Sho Shia was 11 minutes and I even carted once which was amazing since that was my first cart outside the beta LOL

Stop basing the game around the top 1% of the damn population. There is a reason this title over ALL the other monster hunter games is successful. Its appealing to casuals, so if Zoh Shia is the metric of how hard and hp sponge future updates will be the game will hemorrhage players. He is overtuned in the HP aspect by at least 20-25%. Who cares if spee d runners and experts can beat him in under 17 mins when the average player is hitting 30 minutes and wiping. This isn't a get gud brag time, its a fine balance that is needed but its not old MH fans that built up the 10 million sales, that I can promise you.

I'm a new player., this is literally my first game in the genre even. I play aerial glaive which is massively sub optimal. On top of that I make my own build I don't use a guide. I didn't kill him until my 4th try. Kill time was just over 17 minutes. I love these bosses with more ho pools and actual mechanics. I can kill anything except jin and zoh shia in under 7 minutes. Hell I can kill a tompolo in about 2 mins and 15 seconds. I guess my point is that you don't need optimal setups to kill him in under 20 minutes, you just need to learn the mechanics and have fun.

I wasn't complaining about that because there is no such thing as "too easy".
Zoh Shia isn't difficult, but he IS grindy and tedious. Also ugly. Really freakin ugly.
I had my hunter sleep for like... 3 weeks just to get a Zoh Shia investigation with 3 gold loot slots so I wouldn't have to keep hunting the nasty thing for gems.

I love jin. I like zoh too though.
