I really don't understand how companies keep doing this over and over and over again. Anytime you have a leaderboard, you have cheaters. Since an 8 second Chatacabra kill is not possible, that person should simply be banned. I also don't understand how they can't introduce sanity checks before a score is placed.
Having a team of 10 constantly watching over the leaderboard would partially solve the issue until CAPCOM can give their own heads a shake.
Why you ask? if there's a cut-off, cheaters would just gravitate and slowly figure out that time and then the board would be filled to the brim with that specific kill time. Making the rankings useless once again.
What about a team of people that monitor it? same issue, except now you also expect a human to just kinda guesstimate whether a kill time is possible or not.
At the end of the day, in a game that allows client side modifications like this, it's just not possible to have a functioning leader board. You'd have to either completely prevent people from being able to do any kind of modding or have some kind of integrity check for data that is received on the server. Now I'm no systems communications expert, but I wouldn't even know how to begin with the latter.
You won't have OP setups in arenas, so you won't have 30 second kill times. Around 1:30 can be possible, but not the 30 seconds you've seen on specific LBG videos.
Capcom surely knew that, but ignored it.
They will probably have a set interval and a team check logs or whatever they use to manual check and clean it up weekly or or update at something like 3am daily.
So yes your going to see cheaters on the list for a period till it gets cleaned up.
