I am at work and did not check further the issue, but let's see if in these few hours someone comes up with a solution (or maybe an small patch from Capcom).
Just fixed it for a friend running on Mint. Capcom knows how to make great updates, am I right?
Anyway, the fix (at least what worked on Linux Mint, but if it works on an Ubuntu based system, it's more or less the same for Arch/SteamOS):
- Grab the Direct Storage v1.2.2 files from NuGet[www.nuget.org]. You do not need to install the dotnet tools to get this, as the nupkg files are viewable in archive managers like 7Zip and the like.
- Open your Monster Hunter Wilds install folder (Manage -> Browse Local Files).
- Find the following files and rename them (just add .old to the end or whatever):
dstorage.dll
dstoragecore.dll
_Storage_/dstorage.dll
_Storage_/dstoragecore.dll
- You may also need to rename or delete the two cache files in the root folder of the game, but I did not test this not deleting them. So if you want to follow this as a guide, rename them for safety sake, and delete the old files afterwards if it all works.
- Open the nupkg files you downloaded from the first step in an archive manager. You'll then want to navigate to the following within the manager:
native\bin\x64 Copy these dstoragecore.dll and dstorage.dll files where you renamed the files from the third step.
- Go ahead and run the game.
If you do not get stuck at the black screen of chaos, then you have fixed the issue! If you braved skipping removing the cache files, be sure to respond to this post if it worked out. Otherwise, if you followed this as a guide, you'll have to wait for the shader cache to rebuild.Hope this helps people out. I'd post it as a guide, but I do not own the game as I was very disappointed with the second beta wave, and seeing what is going on has made me really not regret my refund request.
Works for me. Thank you!
