Updating BIOS fixed crashes and horrible fps drops on AMD system
I have a 5700XT gpu with r5 3600 cpu, 32GB ram and 8GB vram. My motherboard is an aorus x570 elite. I play on a 1080p 60hz monitor. So I was expecting to be able to atleast run the game on medium with good fps.

Since I first started playing, I have had my graphics set to medium, with the upscaling set to super performance. During this time I experienced horrible frame drops every few minutes for a good 15-20 seconds. It would drop to single digit framerates which made playing the game very difficult. Super performance upscaling looks horrible as well, the game was so blurry and looked like smeared paint 90% of the time. I was also receiving crashes every time I came near a monster in the wyveria ruins, especially in the sections with the cocoons near the central tree. It got so bad that I had to ignore every tempered arkveld hunt in wyveria ruins because it would always run to that area eventually and cause me to crash.

I did not know that my BIOS version would make such a big difference, but I decided to update my bios just to see. I updated from version F39 to F40g, going from a version from almost exactly a year ago to the most current version. I start playing and immediately notice that the fps is not dropping at all. I did several investigations in each of the regions and not once did i have any frame rate drops. I didn’t crash once in wyveria ruins either. I was even able to increase some of my graphics settings and turn the upscaling from super performance to native AA without any change in my fps. But now the game looks a lot better which is nice, i can actually see what is going on.

Now I am just mad that I spent 50 hours playing this game with horrible muddy blurry graphics and terrible performance when all I needed to do is update my bios. This was before the title update, so maybe my performance will be even better now that they have fixed some things.

So if you have my motherboard or similar issues to me, I highly recommend trying to update your BIOS. Though I would research to make sure that other people with your motherboard haven’t been experiencing these issues on the most recent versions, or worse.

have the same gpu. before this update I had tried virtually anything to no avail, game will still hard crash my system. what gpu drivers are you using?
it's the only game that behaves this way. hell, recently got dragon's dogma 2 and had 0 crashes in almost 70 hours.
sorry for venting, but I've been having nothing but frustration with this game since launch.

Sorry to bother, but could you tell me your gpu drivers, please? :|

25.3.2 no crashes for the last 20 hours. out of 37.

I keep my BIOS always up to date so dunno if that helps
I don't wanna touch my gigabyte bios anymore. I don't trust them.

They released like 8 beta versions of the FB3, then the full release, then another beta of the same bios.

That doesn't strike me as very reliable.
Don't update your BIOS unless you know what you're doing.

Also, if your BIOS is recent enough to use RE-Bar, you probably don't 'need' to update. BIOS bug fixes aren't going to help your performance on one game; MH Wilds simply needs to be optimized.

thanks for replying.
are you also on a 5700xt? been having hard crashes since launch and I just can't figure out why this game isn't playing nice with my gpu. everything else works fine. ;-;
and yes, everything is updated except for gpu, which I'm still on 25.2.1 cause I chose to wait for a driver specifically supporting this game

Yes 5700XT.

Any custom tuning i.e frequency, voltage, fan curve, power limits and such or are you running stock?

fan curve pretty high yeah. 100% from 65 degrees celcius up.

Complete placebo effect. You would have gotten that same perceived performance boost by restarting your PC and closing down any stupid programs like Corsair iCue whilst running the game.

Yeah, I'm was still getting constant crashes. tried updating drivers, tried rolling back to supposed stable versions. I guess I just got lucky like other people and this game just refuses to play nice with my system/gpu. hopefully it gets addressed with more updates. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bummer
