Would it hurt them to give Athos some cutscene dialogue?
Even our Palico occasionally gets to say something before being promptly forgotten by everyone else... but poor, adorably fluffy Athos, who is present in almost every single cutscene Olivia is a part of, never EVER gets to say anything.
I've even tried speaking to her in the various hubs and she seems honestly surprised that I wanted to speak to her rather than Olivia.

I'd definitely pay more attention to the chatty cutscenes if Athos was talking. She is such a cutie!

No, he looks more buffed than your standard palico and wears an unique attire.
That ain't buff. That is fluff. You can see the fluffy felyne body during Palico creation.

athos is a he
the name is from "The Three musketeers" character who wields a big sword and is known to be brooding and mysterious, just like Athos is, and just like the Veteran Hunter in Worlds
That is why I figured you were talking about the name. The name is kinda masculine... but that is the only masculine thing about her and gendered names are basically a thing of the past. Her face is entirely feminine. Moreso than any other felyne in the entire game. The Fextralife wiki and MonsterHunterWiki.org both list her as female, and apparently both her "English" and Japanese VAs are women too, though I wouldn't do anything so cursed as to turn Felyne language off. She doesn't have a main wiki article yet, unfortunately.

And I still don't get what your fixation on the Veteran Hunter is. Wasn't he the guy with the Rathian armour and a Longsword?

.... I just found something kinda hilarious on the main MH wiki though:
In concept art for The First Fleet, the Huntsman was portrayed as female.
Huntsman wasn’t in the final product though eh? Not sure why you care what I think anyway tbh, but the character personality and weapon are based off the three musketeer character

The Huntsman = Veteran Hunter

I would like you to clarify something, if Athos should be male due to sharing the name with the three musketeers does that mean the Veteran Hunter should be female?

….huh? I’m not saying athos SHOULD be male I’m saying athos PROBABLY is due to the namesake but I could be wrong, also athos wasn’t one of the three musketeers from what I read I think he was like a side character
Apparently the name was also in Greek mythology though but that was some weird giant they beat up, and athos is similar to the musketeer character as being quiet, brooding/mysterious and having a big sword
Also the veteran hunter/huntsman was changed in the final product but now knowing about the athos name origin I don’t think the huntsman even matters to the debate anymore since huntsman was probably more just following the “Guts” trope of quite strong guy with big sword

Athos's weapon is neither a rapier nor a musket. She isn't a musketeer. Meanwhile her personality is barely defined, since her only dialogue are a few lines you get if you go out of your way to track her down in camp and talk to her, which the game never prompts. She stands out as motherly if anything (her remark about having to eat with Werner because he forgets otherwise is notable). If you're going to make things up, at least try to make it plausible.

He never mattered in the first place. He was at no point in this process even remotely relevant. And he doesn't use a Greatsword. He uses a Longsword. So even your last comment there is wrong.

okay now you are trolling, Athos, as i already said was a CHARACTER from the three musketeers, not one of THE three musketeers
and the longsword is still, a big sword, and i never said "greatsword" either
Athos the Palico is female.
It says so in the description of her armour set.

Now that that's settled, there is a bit of Athos' personality you can pick up through context. She seems to be an old-fashioned chivalrous type, and our Palico seems to admire her - every once in a while, ours will try to mimick her sword drills.

athos is still based on the athos character of the three muskateers story either way

Those sorts of accusations get more bothersome the more I read them.
I'm not trolling. I'm never trolling. It is not a thing I've done in over 15 years. I'm usually sincere, sometimes joking, and NEVER trying to provoke. All claims to the contrary are false. That is a guarantee. Claims that I am trolling are libel and libel is illegal.
I'm genuinely getting sick of the accusations of trolling in general around here. People just constantly act like anyone who ever says anything they disagree with "must be trolling"... like they honestly believe that an organised conspiracy to antagonise them is more probable than someone actually having a different perspective. It is ridiculous.
There are some trolls, but I'm not one of them, and I'd have thought the difference would be more obvious.

Figured it was one of them. Honestly I don't know much more of that matter than that film adaptation in the 90s and that was a long time ago. All I remembered is that two of the musketeers had names kinda like that... and for some reason they used rapiers rather than ... well... muskets.

and the longsword is still, a big sword, and i never said "greatsword" either
You said 'following the "Guts" trope' ... There is no way to interpret that as anything besides Greatsword because the Greatsword is inspired by Guts in the first place. The folks at Capcom really like Berserk. I mean Dragon's Dogma is like 90% Berserk Golden Age with the numbers filed off. Gore Magala / Shagaru Magala is basically Dragon Femto / Griffith. Like at this point it is basically "Please stop making Berserk references, Capcom. We get it. You like it."
