Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

The loss of charm
I finished the game recently, I feel like I've experienced enough of it to say that I do not like wilds as much as when I started playing it.
There is no more tracking the monster like in worlds, gathering samples and paying attention to the enviroment to locate your prey.
It feels more like monster slaughter, jump on your chocobo, press x to set waypoint, afk for a minute while your chocobo AUTOMATICALLY takes you to the monster. Repeat ad infinitum.
The game also misses a lot of charm.
No felyne kitchen is a crime, next update in the gathering hub, okay. It should have been in the game from the start.
No "so tasty" playing after cooking well done steaks except when in camp.
No amazing views making the world feel larger. I remember the old maps (pre worlds) having vantage points where you can look off in the distance and even though the map itself was small, the backgrounds gave a feeling of being huge and alive.

I love the combat of this game. I love not having to grind 300 rathalos for a plate. I kind of miss the jank of the old games, but the open world is great and the graphics are stunning. I can clearly see what was improved and the devs have done well improving those things. But they were too focused on gameplay and streamlining and in that they lost a part of the character and charm Monster hunter had as a franchise.

Yup. It's what a lot of people were saying since day one.

Edit: Even before day one as well. Superrad goes over the game in good detail and points out a lot of things the glazers left out.

To each their own. I came to the opposite conclusion and think this game might have the most charm so far.

Wilds to me feels like a mix of all the best parts of dos, tri and 4u with a side of HD graphics and Rise's peak combat.

= calling your giant-chicken uber, lightin a cigar, and waiting until you get to your destination- just to hit the monster 20 times, until it runs away and you repeat the loop 2-3 times..

yea the charm
