Recently I had an issue with another game similar to this. They ban you for an undisclosed reason without any proof and tell you to f*ck off. Good times to be a gamer.
The thing is, something must have been traceable in the savegame or in the network logs, that it was found out. Or the host was a "honey trap" that did report players joining his trap.
Personaly i belive Op did something more then just joining this specific quest.
The only way to absolutely ensure no negative consequences are saved is to Task Manager close the game process.
