Edit: The more I think about the more disgusting it is. They want the financial benefit to having a live service game but not the financial responsibility. It's pathetic that anyone would defend this.
It'll most likely be like various other MH games when it comes to making the armor sets, and such, where it's only determined on your personal ranking, NOT the online ranking.
As such you will be expected to S rank all the Arena hunts by yourself, or with others, which has usually never been too difficult to due in the first place.
But yes, to those who actually want a fair chance at bragging rights for the online ranking, I'm afraid you're all screwed.
Even if you are able to get pendants/limited stuff legit, things like Item Editor exist, where you can literally just add the items into your storage/inventory without even touching the Arena stuff, which you'd think if people were going to cheat to get those items anyways, why bother cheating, and messing with the leaderboards, and to answer that; Because they can. And so they will.
I hate FOMO as it is, but the top leaderboard pendants is just a terrible idea from the start.
As far as I'm aware, they don't bother to notify you if action is actually taken on a report, unlike basically every multiplayer game now-a-days.
I'm recalling the Biohazard/Resident Evil 5 leaderboards, which are purely comprised of people with 0 second campaign finishes and scores above the mathematically possible maximum for Mercenaries.
Rewards for being on a leaderboard are sadly also commonplace... So this is absolutely nothing new and has been an issue in gaming for over 10 years.
What I'm worried about is whether the system automatically processes reports and banning. Imagine if people started mass-reporting you or they abuse the system just for fun / trolling because they're jealous of your clear time, and suddenly, you as legitimate speedrunner get banned.
Banning people should be done manually by the employee of whoever handle the server of mh wilds
Doubt it'll work like that. Will probably just draw attention to that player and have them check some sort of data to figure out whether that player was cheating or not.
If they block mods on the other hand because of this, then they shot themselves in the foot and will also lose players lols.
Look, the way I see it, is you participate for the rewards and laugh at anyone using the leaderboard cosmetics as cheaters and report them to capcom. Sure, they look cool but its all but guaranteed to be achieved through cheating so anybody thats using it to show off is almost certainly a hacker.
Im also not so entitled that I care about useless cosmetics that, generally speaking while COOL as an individual item, look horrid on your weapons. Nor do I think that everything in a game should be accessible for me. I should be able to try for a thing, but its not my right that I get the rewards that I cannot achieve.
And even if it WERE cheater free, I highly doubt anybody in the forum is going to be in the top 100 regardless. Just accept it as something only cheaters, speed runners and monster hunting gods are going to be getting and move on, and use the system to get cheaters banned from online play.
